Sylvania 6842PE Hello All - I'm hoping someone can help me with this TV issue I have. I was watching the Sylvania LCD in subject line a couple of days ago, and boom / popping noise, and the picture went out. I tried to turn it on again, and heard another boom sound with no picture, and it turned itself off. Now, everytime I turn it on, it automatically turns off immediately. I need help, and need to know if anyone had this problem, and was able to repair the set, and if so, how did you repair it. My children watch this TV set in the library, and I can't afford a replacemnt. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Wm.
This is a power source problem and it will need to be fixed by a pro! This is a very common problem with the Sylvania sets! (cost to fix 250.00-350.00)

Plasma and LCD TV sets are prone to having capacitors in the power supply section fail. This is the most likely cause for the probem you describe. When capacitors fail your will commonly see one or more of the following symptoms.
the 1inch black line is either a buffer board gone bad or the ribbon cable from the plasma screen to the buffer board, the snowy picture could be many things, including y-sus, xsus or tuner boards
it most probably is DTV ready, try googeling some on the subject, but since its a LCD tv from 2006 its most likely to made with a digital tuner. Note : if you have cable or satelite ( dish networks, Direct Tv and so on ) you are allready watching digital TV and do not need a converter box.
