SOURCE: McCulloch 14" chain saw Model CS 38 EM It quit

Most often there is a dust-oil clog in the bottom of the bar slot which closes an oil passage between the bar slot and the hole drilled half way through the side of the bar. This provides a passage between the thin shim plate with the two bar bolt holes beside the bar and through to the oil tank or pump output. You can remove the bar and chain and punch out the blockage in the bar with a paper clip if the chain is removed. Make sure the wire can be pushed from the bar slot right through the side hole in the bar. A gravity feed chainsaw should leak right out into the slot of the shim plate, a button pumper should squirt out there with the bar removed. With a button pumper you may have a tiny check valve in the line or the push button to take apart, replace the spring or unstick the ball inside the check valve. This is why they went to the gravity feed oil system which just leaks in there and gets picked up by the bottom of the links as the chain races past the passage between the bar side hole and the chain slot.

Testimonial: "I checked as you suggested and I removed the pump from the crank shaft and the plastic gear is stripped. Now I can not find a pump. Thanks Jim"

Mcculloch EM250-14 RPM Slowed suddenly

The chain must be properly sharpened to cut efficiently and the oil pump must be feeding oil to the chain/bar. Check the oiling by running the saw with the bar tip near some cardboard for a few moments--it should throw off a thin line of oil on to the cardboard. If not, remove the bar and chain and run the motor for a few moments--it should ooze oil out of a side port that exits near the drive end of the bar. If still nothing, check the oil tank filter for plugging, then the oil pump itself--it may have a plastic gear that has stripped it's teeth. Once you get oil from the side port, clean the oil passages in the drive end of the bar, and reinstall the bar and chain. Hope this helps!

I need to tighten the chain. Is there a way to do

there should be a screw at the back end of the bar.Screw it in to push the bar out ,or forward, thus makeing the chain tighter

What type of oil do i use in my mcculloch electamac 2.5hp em250-14 chain saw

Normal 2-stroke oil,as long as the mixture of gas and oil, are correct.
If the mixture is not right, then the motor will tend to overheat and become powerless.
Good luck, and safe chopping:)
