This is a bios password and very difficult to crack, removing the power supply, main battery, and the cmos battery on the motherboard will not reset it. Go to www.ebay.com type bios password and select IBM from the list of sellers.

This works great
Forgotten Power-on password
If the Power-on password is forgotten
and the Supervisor password is known,
simply go into the ThinkPad BIOS setup
utility and reset the Power-on password,
otherwise try the following:
Turn off the computer.
Remove the battery pack.
Remove the backup battery. This is
located under the battery.
Turn on the computer and wait until the
POST ends. After the POST ends, the
password prompt does not appear. The POP
has been removed.
Reinstall the backup battery and the
battery pack.
Note: Some ThinkPad systems have the
ability to reset the Power-on passwords
in the ThinkPad BIOS setup utility if a
Supervisor password has been set.

SOURCE: can't unlock my ibm thinkpad t23

Your computer has been protected by a Power On password.
If you didn't set this password then ask the person who set the password on the computer.
This password is near impossible to crack, try various names, pets, kid's names, family names/places, street names etc. There are no back door passwords and the password is not stored in the BIOS and removing the BIOS battery won't erase the password.
The password is stored on an EEPROM chip and you need electronic knowledge to build an EEPROM reader, then pull your laptop apart, solder the reader to your laptop, connect the reader's connector to a working computer, and run a program to read the contents of the EEPROM, identify the password from the downloaded data, unsolder the reader, put the laptop back together, boot up and insert the password. You can now enter the BIOS and change the password or remove it.

The Power On password and the Hard drive password are designed to prevent unauthorized access to the laptop and the data that is stored on its hard drive.
Removing the hard drive from the protected laptop and inserting it into another laptop will not work, you still cannot access the data on the hard drive without the correct password.

SOURCE: forgot login password so my ibm laptop is completely locked what do i do?

Are you using XP, you can boot in Safe mode and log in as Administartor(usually it does not have any password), so login with Admin account and remove the password of your account. and then restart the system to Normal mode to get your system working.

But unfortunately in case if it is Vista, there is no other option other then formating the whole system.

SOURCE: forget BIOS Password (Laptop - IBM Thinkpad Lenovo R60)

For that you need to reset factory defaults settings for bios.
For reset bios u have to open back side of your laptop then u find motherbord circuit there.
pull cmos cell on motherbord for 15 minute then it reset to defaults.
Also u can reset with jumper settigns read carefully on mother bord there is 1 jumper near cmos cell u read there " bios reset or clear"
It is on 1-2 position right now set it in 2-3 position then power up then all bios settings are reset.
then again set it in 1-2 its original position.

Unlock password

It seems to have a password set for that hard disk. Try using another hard disk. If you have the same issue, then there is some sort of password set in the BIOS.

How to get past screen with padlock on it after forgetting password for my ibm laptop

The quickest and cheapest way to get past this is to download a password recovery program from the web. These are essentially hacker tools but work great. Just search to find one and follow the instructions it gives to reset/get past the password screen. Please proceed at your own risk obviously.

My laptop IBM 2652 is locked .A padlock appears at top left of screen.I would appreciate help in unlocking and returning it to factory settings. My user guide is lost.

The Thinkpad is locked with a Power On Password and its purpose is to prevent unauthorized access to the laptop..
This password is set from the BIOS configuration.
Removing the BIOS battery to set the BIOS back to the factory default will not remove the password because it is stored on an EEPROM chip on the motherboard.
There is a way to remove this password, but it requires electronic knowledge and soldering skills. Please click on this link and follow my instructions.
