SOURCE: lubricant leak from round disk on the inside top

That would be the stirrer cover, and the leak is probably grease that has gotten into the area above the cover.

The cover, stirrer and exposed area under the cover needs to be cleaned thoroughly to prevent arcing and to allow for proper stirrer of the weaves for even cooking.

Why did it catch on fire?

Any flaws in the painted surface on the inside of the unit will cause a spark and that generates heat. Examine the surfacecor any exposed metal. You have to use special paint to resurface the inside.

I have a Panasonic Microwave NN-A524 and I accidentally knocked the bottom hook off just as I was shutting the door. I can't get it to open now or work in any way but when I switch it on at the wall the...

I laughed my socks off. Without the door hook the door opening or closing mechanism is completely broken. If you have the time you could unplug it and dis-assemble the whole thing from the back and re-assemble it with a new hook, perhaps make a new hook from aluminuim sheet. I would throw it away and but a cheaper microwave.

Microwave...after a few seconds it starts sparking

OMG,
first thing, THROW IT AWAY!
These panels are in place to protect you from radiation that the microwave puts out to heat your food. Under no attempt should you use this piece of equipment, or attempt repair!! Either use the warranty program to send off and get repaired, or throw it out and buy a new one. I have found that even sending one for repair the owner is responsible for two way shipping, and that is usually half as much as a new microwave!
good luck,
Jay

This is the stirrer cover. It is important. It is to keep food particles and grease out of the stirrer and waveguide area.

If grease or food particles build up, they can arc, which will cause burn damage to the cover, stirrer, chassis, and/or magnetron.

If you have any arcing, you should remove it for cleaning. Be careful of sharp edges.

The stirrer's job is to stir the microwaves to ensure even heating, even when a turntable is not present or not used.
