My Dyson DC15 was working fine since 2006. For last few weeks its brushbar is not working. I tried to reset on/off switch. Finally opened the switch cover and bypass the switch but still no movement in the motor. I took the motor out and plug it into electric outlet and it is working fine. There is no current in the wires connecting the motor even after bypassing the on/off switch. Any idea where is the problem? Is there any hidden reset switch or wire connecting the motor is faulty?
SOURCE: Brushbar not spinning
Well dummy me. I called Dyson. There is an on/off switch RIGHT NEXT TO THE MAIN ON OFF for JUST the beater bar. Itis not highlighted in the manual and I never even looked at the front of the machine! Pressing did reactivate beater bar after the auto shut off caused by the sock! HOWEVER I am keeping the more complicated clutch instructions, just in case. Thanks!

Check the above link to see if it helps. It shows you how to break down the DC15 to check for issues.

In theory, yes. If the brushbar isn't held firmly, then the belt isn't running smoothly which puts more strain on the motor. This can cause the motor to get hot very quickly which will trip the thermal overload protection.
After it switches off, do you have to wait several minutes before it will turn back on?
SOURCE: Hello! Help!! The brushbar
Sorry this is not a solution. But after reading your problem and other people with the same problem, i just wanted to say i have a Dyson DC24 ball and have only had it 1 year and the exact same thing has happend it is spotless inside and out including the pipes and brush bar, still no matter how many times i press the reset button it still wont spin. I am going to go back to a Hover because im fed up with this piece of **** Dyson! sorry but wasnt there a time when things where built to last! I am now using an ancient Hover junior which is the spare vacume cleaner we keep in the cupboard. Dyson LOL.

DC15 Brushbar Problem. Intermittant operation of brushbar. Cuts out depending on angle of vacuum. Also cuts out on lifting from floor. Normal suction at all points and no blockage. Brushbar not jammed. Seems like a loose connection somewhere but where ? and what
