I bought a used Motorola HDT101 High Definition Off Air Receiver and it has a security lock code from its previous owners on it. Is there a way to unlock this so I can use it?

Have you tried 0000 or your own pin number yet ?

Alternatively call the person you bought this from and ask them the codes.

The default lock code is 12345 . If this doesn't work then the previous owner might have setup his own code. You'll have to ask the previous owner.

default would be 0000, 1111, 9999, 1234. If it was changed by the previous owner it could be anything, and would need to be reset.

Send it back to the guy you bought it from. He'll need to take the unit to the location he used to set the PIN code in order to access the menu and disable the security location feature.

There is no other way around this as it's an anti-theft measure: unless you can get the previous owner to co-operate and sort this out then you have a useless piece of junk. Garmin will not help you either as they only provide support to the original purchaser and even then only if the product was registered with them.

Unlock Code is a manual hard-lock on handsets which requires the correct pass code to allow access to the phone's functions.
Occasionally, people purchase used handsets. Previous owners may have locked the handset and are unreachable to get the new pass code

To unlock the phone using the factory default pass code, perform the following:

1. Confirm the phone shows, Enter Unlock Code.
2. Press the MENU button. The screen will show, Enter Security. Try both.
3. Enter last 4 of PTN, unless you have changed the lock code, and press OK. OR
Enter six zero's (000000) and press OK.
*If successful, the screen will display, Phone Unlocked.
*If unsuccessful, the screen will display "Security code is incorrect please try again."

If the you don't know the code, You will need to contact Motorola to have it re-flashed, which may incur a service charge from Motorola.
4. You now has access to use the phone’s functions.
5. Do not change the Unlock Code.

try 00000.

If this does not work it means the previous owner changed the default code.

Else you need to format the phone.

try this trick, when youre at the screen where it asks for the security code, take out battery cover and try to take the battery off the metal contacts and stick it back quickly (not longer than a sec) you only want to simulate a reset. this may help u bypass that screen and enter your home screen as if you have entered the code. i am not sure if u can try and change the security code from there, but what u may try to do (lets hope the security code isnt the code u put in to "reset" the phone) is reset the phone to factory settings.
