When i connect the monitor to my computer there is nothing displayed, when i take out the cable, there is a floating "Check cable" box. But as soon
as I connect the cable to the computer the check cable box goes away.
The green pilot light at lower right goes off and on periodically. If I
press the menu button on the monitor, I get a graphic box in the upper left corner saying Test Good
with a graphic of five small circles with dots in the center, arranged
as a row of 3 and a row of 2. None of the other buttons does anything
except the power button seems to turn the green pilot light off and on. I am running windows vista ultimate and have a GeForce 8800 GTX graphics card. Which my Compaq FP5315 Monitor that works fine. Does anyone have any ideas?

The resolution setting may have been in inadvertently change to one that your monitor does not support you mentioned that you have another monitor that does work with your computer what i would do is to set the video resolution to the lowest possible setting and the turn off the computer and connect the questionable monitor to your computer and reboot if it does come up then you will be able to make changes and find an appropriate resolution for your monitor

Not sure what your cable box outputs but connect your cable box to a tv and try changing the resolution of your cable box to 1600x900 or less if there is such a setting; the monitor will not display resolutions higher than 1600x900
Disconnect the video cable from the computer and power on the monitor. If you see the color bars floating on the display then the monitor is functioning. Your computer has a problem.
Possible reasons for that may be bad cable connection, burnt videocard, or problem in the signal board in the monitor. So, first check with another monitor if your PC is actually giving a singnal. Then look both ends of the cable for bend pins. They can be easily strighten with thin plyers. You can replace the cable VGA (or DVI) cable to see if it will fix the problem. If your videocard is OK and the cable is OK, then try to open the monitor. Replace the capacitors on the signal board. Look for blown capacitors on the power board too. Replace if any. If this cant help, there is major problem with the signal board of the monitor and more measuring is needed. There are buffer elements between the connector and the signal processor and some of them may be faulty. If there are no buffers and the signal goes directly to the processor, entire board should be replaced. If there are VGA and DVI inputs, you may try the other input with the relevant cable.
I would advice you check all the connection on the monitor to ensure all the cables are properly attached to the monitor and the central processing unit, if still no display, you can change the cable to try another cable to see if it will give difference, if nothing happens, you might need to diagnose the monitor to see if it powers on, if it does and no display, you will need to replace the picture board on the monitor to solve the problem.
Hi. Check the cables if it is firmly connected to the video ports. If nothing happens, try removing and reinstalling the video card then reconnect the cables. It works wonders!!!
had the same issue, called up customer care of samsung and they suggested me to change the cable to D-15 10 series. I was getting the comp o/p on TV but with the "Check Signal Cable" messg with the old VGA cable where some pin is not grounded used for computer to monitor connectivity. Abhi..
When your computer is starting up, hit F8 and you'll see the safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc. screen...You should see a choice that says "enable vga mode". Select that and windows will start and the os will select a screen resolution for you. After that, everything will work fine...I hope.
That unfortunatly didnt work :( thankyou anyway for your help
