I have a GE side by side model #PSS26MSRC SS. The noise is coming from behind the ice maker and it sounds like the fan revs up and down making a whistling sound. Pulled fridge out cleaned back panel and unplugged unit plugged back in now not making noise? I was going to check control board but now working properly. Any thoughts?

SOURCE: GE MODEL GSH25JSRF-SS PROBLEM HELP PLEASE

I had the same problem back in March. First the water and ice dispensers stopped working, then the clicking started and the compressor wouldn't turn on. I replaced the circuit board and everything started working again, until today. This is a very common problem with the circuit board on these refrigerators. Do a search for "GE circuit board" and you'll see what I mean. GE issued a service bulletin to its technicians that this service should be provided free of charge, and anyone who already paid to have the circuit board replaced will be reimbursed. I wish I would've known about it 6 months ago. I will be calling GE Consumer Affairs on Monday to get this resolved.

SOURCE: GE Fridge Motor Super Loud

Open the freezer door and see if the sound is there or if its near the floor. This needs to be corrected soon to prevent damage to your refrigerator. Your explanation makes be think the fan inside the freezer is loose or has ice buildup around the blades or the fan blade has become unbalanced in some way...Let me know and please rate me, Thanks, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: GE Profile Fridge Model No. PSC25MSWA SS not making ice

Check to see if there is any obstruction (object of any kind) in the ice cube mold area. If nothing found, you will have to replace the icemaker, as individual repair parts are not available.

GE Side by Side Refrig - loud noise behind the ice maker section Model PSS25SGMB BS

it sounds like the evaporator fan blade is hitting some ice that has built up around the blades i have seen this happen a lot on g.e. SxS lately,if you can remove the ice maker and dispenser you can see the fan blade,if you dont want to do this then shut down the refrigerator and leave freezer door open and heat it carefully with a hairdrier to speed the process up to melt this ice then restart it and the noise should be gone

Loud noise from freezer of GE model GSF25TGTB (Side by side)

Problems not related.  The first is most likely the fan, or possibly water dripping on to the fan and freezing, but usually the noise comes from the fan struggling to run.  The cube problem could be as simple as the ice dispenser being put back in wrong.  There is a metal lever under the ice tray that switches between crushed and cubed.  Make sure it is seated properly.

Whisling noise coming out of inside the refrigerator. Louder when freezer door is open. maybe ice maker area?

The whistling is caused by the air circulating fan located just behind the light. It is easily accessed by removing the light cover and the two small hex screws above the light. To stop the whistling I simply turned the freezer off and pulled the fan cover out slightly to reveal the fan blades. I then pushed the blades down, toward the bottom of the until the blades stopped and i could feel the shaft slightly protruding from the top of the blades. Repositioning the blade has stopped the incessant whistling. Hope this helps!

In our 22 cu ft GE SxS fridge /freezer, the freezer fan speeds up and slows down frequently and creates a whoooing sound like a quiet hoot owl when reaching the peak speed of the speed up phase of the ebb...

I have had some of these units making noises like this. One I found was leaking water down from the water inlet tube and in behind the ice maker and behind another panel that shoots up to the ice maker and building up behind that panel and causing a whistling sound. Removing the ice build up solved this one problem but couldn't find solution to the problem for the other. Dismissed it to change in the weather and expanding and contracting of the liner of the unit. Hope this helps.

Ratteling noise behind the ice maker on GE PSS26MSTESS

Sounds like a bearing is going in the evaporator fan motor. Remove it and check for excessive side play in the fan motor.
