SOURCE: Dell inspiron 1300 Video card upgrade
Sorry you cannot upgrade the graphics on your laptop according to the articles i looked up.
You should call DELL. I think the display card is part of the mother board on your computer. In this case, you cannot change it. In some models you can add some memory to the display card, but this may not make the card faster. Higher amounts of memory allows for more resolution and colours.
SOURCE: Dell inspiron 1300 back light problem
All laptops have a backlight and an inverter to power it, and the problem you have is very common. Usually replacing the inverter board in the display fixes the trouble. There are a number of vendors online offering replacement parts. Here is one that just popped up after a Google search. You can also find videos on youtube showing the procedure for opening up the display to install the new part. It's a simple process that most people can handle with a little patience and some small tools.
It's also possible the light itself has gone bad, but the inverter failure is more common. The backlight on some displays is not replaceable separately. So try the less expensive inverter replacement first.
SOURCE: dell inspiron 1300 does not switch on
try unseating and reseating the memory one stick at a time in each slot one at a time and try turning on the laptop after each stick reinsertion.
If this doesn't do it then take out the hard drive and dvd drive then turn on ht laptop.
If after all of these steps you still don't get video then the motherboard is bad.
