I have huge folders of photos and it would be nice when i open the
folder to find a photo if the defualt was thumbnail view instead of list or tile views. Is there any way to make thumbnail the default viewing preference?
thnx adam f NY
Your best bet is to use the built-in File Browser. It has 2 panes: 1 is a directory tree and the other is a thumbnail view of folder contents. I know Photoshop has this and would expect that Publisher has the same. So instead of going to File>Open, use the File Browser which is usually located near the top right-hand side of the toolbar within the application. Double-click a thumbnail to open the file.
There might be a special command within the application or a Windows registry setting that would enable a default thumbnail view in the Open dialog box, but I don't know of one off hand.

It may be more of a windows hing than a photoshop thing.
if i have a program open like photoshop or publisher and i want to
open/insert a photo i open click OPEN and i get a popup of my folder full of photos on the desktop, but its always a list of the photos. is there anyway to have it open that photo folder with a thumbnail view as the defaut so i don't have to go change it to thumbnail every single time. i am editing hundreds of photos and it's a huge Pain I.T.A. to do this manually every time. thnx a pc win XP

Are you using a PC or Mac? If using Windows OS, by saying "when I open the folder to find a folder" do you mean open a folder in Windows Explorer or from within Photoshop?
