Open your Web browser and type "192.168.0.1" (without quotes) into the address bar.

Press "Enter" on your keyboard to access the router.

A login prompt appears.


Enter your username and password to log into the router.

The router's main menu loads.

Navigate to the Maintenance heading of the Main Menu page.

Select "Set Password."

The "Set Password" menu appears.


Enter the router's old password into the Old Password field.

Type the new password into the New Password field. Verify the new password in the Repeat New Password field.


Click the "Apply" button to apply the change.
or if its the WGR614-V6 model

Push the "Default Reset" button on the back of the Netgear WGR614-V6.

The button is located on the back of the unit, to the left of the external antenna.

You may need to use a pin or the tip of a pencil to access the button.


Continue holding the button in until you see the "Power" indicator on the front of the unit turn off and back on.


This takes approximately ten seconds.

Let go of the button.


The Netgear WGR614-V6 shuts off and turns back on.

Allow several seconds for this process to complete.


Log into the router using the default password by opening a Web browser and navigating to the address "192.168.1.1." Enter the password "password" to log in.

If you are referring to put a custom password for the router itself.

1. open up your browser
2. put in the url -> http://192.168.1.1
3. a username and password prompt appears: input just the password (which is "admin")
4. go to the administration tab
5. input your new password twice.

you have put password for accessing your router( system config menu/router config menu) but not client WEP password, the router is still open access point( AP). configure a WEP key and then each/any of the client need to know this key/password to access internet via your router. good luck

To put a password on your router you would need to access the routers Graphical User Inter phase.
Heres how to do it. .
- open you Internet Explorer - type 192.168.1.1 OR 192.168.0.1 - put in your username and password - go to security tab - then from there you will see the on screen instructions to in putting a password.

How can i put a password to my N router (DIR 615)?

Connect a LAN cable to the router and computer. Open your WEB Internet Explorer and your in the router's URL IP configuration address.
This will be 192.168.0.1 and the default Login = admin and the default password = (blank) just press Enter.
You can now change the default password.

Not a problem with router but I need to put a security password in place as I think someone else is using my router.

Go to your IP for that router and put it in Internet explorer.

Most IP's are 192.168.1.1

It may let you set a password up, some do not.
