Tone arm snapped off

Hi, you will need to take it to a service centre. John.

Check the point where the arm piviots, maybe a screw has come loose. Depending on the type of cartridge it should track at 3 to 4 grams.

Check the arm wires have not got caught around the anti skate mechanism.
Did you adjust the screw / lock nut on top of the arm?. It's not supposed to be moved but if you did it might be to tight.

This table should have an "anti-skate" adjustment. This is out of adjustment and putting to much tension on the arm. This adjustment is designed to insure that the needle tracks in the middle of the groove rather than one side. If the arm is out of balance and this os out of adjustment, the symptom you describe will occur. Hope this helps, Dan

this is a damaged tone arm bearing i had this problem with mine and had no choice other than spending £50 on a new tone arm

under the tone arm next to the lever ther is a sort of plastic bar which lifts the tone arm when lever is up right, look along that bar and there is a screw which you turn as you would to tighten anything.you will see the bar move down,try again and if you still have the same problem repeat the process till done......

this could be the tone arm bearings too tight,damaged or in need of a little oil.

i had a similar problem on my 1210, it kept jumping all the time,ruining my mixes! it turned out it was the bearings too tight.

unscrew the counter weight so that the arm hovers over the platter and move it to the centre with anti-skate on zero.

slowly turn the anti-skate round to three and the arm should move over to the arm rest smoothly,if it stops before the arm rest or isnt smooth theres your problem,loosen the bearing adjuster slightly and try the hover routine again until its as smooth as you can get it. it is possible,if the turntable has been transported without dust covers the bearings or the pin could be slightly damaged from knocks on the top of the tone arm assembly.

They actually need to be "broken in". The mk5 uses a different pitch board, allowing you to reverse, pitch up and down to 16, and lock and unlock the quartz. The mk5 is more precise, so its also more sensitive. Notice the notches on the turntable shaft behind the tonearm weight. The mk5  is just make to be finer calibrated.....your decks are fine, and more so probably your mk2s as well.

Oh and also, the infinite lubrication used on technics that was developed in the 70s is no match for the formula developed in the late 90s. Slick!!
