Please contact your home insurance to have the problem logged as a failure of the microwave. The insurance company will most likely help you with the smoke damage to the house and will contact the manufacturer to get their money back... there might be an issue with the manufacturing of these appliances.

SOURCE: I used the sharp to bake potatoes and after two

Assuming that the internal cooling fan was working properly, it may be as simple as a failed magnetron thermal cutout.

I don't have an exploded view on this one, and the supplier's part list is not detailed properly, so you would have to remove the magnetron thermal cutout and look for the numbers on it, either 145 or 150.

See:
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt

Then here would be the part numbers:

RTHM-A080WRE0 Thermal Cut Out 145 Degree c
RTHM-A085WRE0 Thermal Cut-out 150'C

You can order parts from Encompass here or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

You should also check the 20A ceramic fuse. Fuses can be had locally in most grocery stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers, and big box or department stores.

Fuse is behind the control panel. Has cavity sensors and a magnatron thermal disc also. Start with the fuse and then pull it down if not the problem. Eric

Hello there:
what you are going to have to do is:
(1) remove the screws in the back that hold on the cover than look under the microwave and see if there is any screws there and remove them also
(2) now remove the cover and look up towards the front right side top area and you should see a fuse remove the fuse and replacce it than plug in the unit and see if it works if so replace the cover and all screws and you are good to go ok?
If none of the above have seemed to help than i would contact a local authorized repair shop and have the unit serviced ok?

SOURCE: SET TIMER FOR 20 MINUTES FOR BAKED POTATOE.. CAME

That was a very long duration to have set for potatoes. It would have made the magnetron burnt by exeeding the limit and findinf there was no conductive medium by moisture , it has ended up burning the magnetron.
First of all clean up the inside and clean up the point of the magnetron beam. Now confirm on the inside to be totally dry.
Disconnect power and check inside for break of fuse to the magnetron. If the microwave does not heat on testing with a cup of water , then it is possible that the magnetron is cooked.
Confirm the cost for the unit to decide on replacement.
Hope this helps.

While baking a sweet potato, the potato exploded and caught on fire. The microwave no longer works.a fire bro

I haven't heard of such a thing. You must have cooked it until there was no moisture left in the potato. That would also account for the failure of the oven. It would be the same as no load in the oven.
A thermal protect part is your current problem.

Microwave won't restart after baking potatoes.

If your microwave is not a convection then the moisture most probably is somehow getting to the controls as potatoes has quite a bit.

I have a 3-year old Amana microwave installed above my stove. Last night I was baking two potatoes in the microwave. I noticed that the microwave sounded "louder" than normal. After about 13...

No! But it will need to be repaired. Did you wrap the potatoes in tin foil? The reason for the smoke needs to be found and repaired. Smoking means a short or a part shorted, failed, or wires touching another wire that did not blow any fuss. That is not good.
Trained technicians can help the mfg improve their products if they find the problem and report it to the Mfg.

While using the Bake Potatoe setting the code F6 came up on the display and the light went out and the machine was making a humming noise.

F6 on a Whirlpool microwave means your cook relay has shorted.

We can repair that with our $39.95 service (details here) or you can order a new control circuit board from the Pros here.

My old GE oven (JSP38G052BG) won't bake or broil. It start then stop after 1 or 2 minutes. The heating elements get worm. Can you help me please

Hello ediben11.

If your oven's bake or the broiler heating elements won't heat but the range burners still work;the clock may be set for a timed or self-cleaning cycle. So,make sure to check the clock buttons and the knobs are set properly.
*If your clock has a knob that says "push for manual" then push the knob in after that, try the baking and broiling elements again.

*If it still does not work properly, you may have a defect in the thermostat/selector switch/common wiring.

*If the oven does not have a separate bake or broil selector switch; then the thermostat is probably the problem. It is not easy to check the selector switch or thermostat for proper operation. If you suspect a problem in this area, call a qualified appliance repair technician.

Hope this helps.

Were the potatoes wrapped in foil? If so, the megatron tube was burned out. Replace unit.
