Hello,

Try to press and hold the resume button (the triangle in a circle button) for about 5 seconds. In this way the ink level monitor is disable. Only if you put a new cartridge the ink level will be enabled.

Regards !

SOURCE: Alert! Wrong Cartridge message

If you are absolutely sure that cartridge is installed correctly, the contacts where cartridge may be dirty. Clean gently with soft lint free cloth with small amount of rubbing alcohol and retry. If problem persists the contacts may have been damaged.

Where is Canon printer service center in louisville KY?

Hello, Tanya -

I tried using the Canon Find A Service Location web page,
https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/service-repair/servicelocation?cm_sp=CSO-_-support/service-repair-_-Service-locations
but, it seems the search logic does not accept MP495 as a valid Canon printer model number. Do you mean the PIXMA MP495? If so . . . this is what came up when I entered PIXMA MP495 and a Louisville, Kentucky zip code:

While trying to find more information on the Canon MP495 printer, I came across information about the 5800 error code and the ink absorber being full, here:

Question:
HI an error 5800 came up on my canon printer mp495 that my ink absorber is full. How do i clean it? . . . [snip] I have the printer about 2yrs and i haven't updated software

Answer:
Unfortunately, there is no quick or easy fix here. This message indicates a hardware problem, specifically that that the internal "ink absorber system" is full. The ink absorber is a series of pads/tanks, which catch drips from the printhead when parked, and is also used for maintenance tasks like cleaning and purging.

Eventually this absorber fills up, and the printer shuts down operations, as continuing to operate it can result in ink overflowing the system, damaging your desk, flooring, etc

While it is sometimes possible to temporarily reset the counter, this is dangerous as the system will likely overflow. Cleaning/emptying/replacing the system is a difficult and messy process as well, best left to a qualified service technician. This service is generally not practical though - it's going to run you $150-250 for repairs, which just isn't worth it for an older printer. This is a 7 year old model, that was built for a service life of no more than 3 years. If you have reached the point that the absorber has filled, then other wear items like the printhead, feed rollers, etc are also going to be at the end of their lives and need service/replacement soon.

Given the costs and complexity of fixing this issue, you'd be better off replacing the printer. You can get a brand new and better machine, with current technology and a fresh warranty, for about $80, which makes more sense than investing in the older machine.

I can recommend replacement options for you if you'd like, or if you'd prefer to try having it serviced or working on it yourself, I can advise further on those options. Replacement would be your best bet though, economically speaking.

From other information I found, it appears the Canon PIXMA MP495 came out in mid-2010. Do you recall when you purchased your printer? As the long explanation I posted above states, the estimated service life of the PIXMA MP495 was no more than 3 years.

So, your only option seems to be to purchase a new printer.

Sorry.

My black ink button on my pixma mp495 printer is blinking. Why?

A B LED light denotes that the black ink cartridge is running low.
A C LED light denotes that the colour ink cartridge is running low.
If the alarm light is on (lightning bolt in a triangle) it should be accompanied by an error code.

How do I change the ink cartridge in my canon mp495 printer

Make sure that the printer is plugged in and turned on. Close the document cover (if it is open). Lift the scanner unit and hold it open with the support on the right. Wait until the ink cartridge carrier moves to the ink replacement area. Pinch the tabs on one of the ink cartridge covers (front and back) and lift the cover up. Then pull the cartridge up at an angle towards you. Put the new cartridge in at the same angle. Then close the cartidge cover (it should click). Repeat this for the other cartridge, if needed. Lift up the scanner unit and then lower it down to close the printer.
Wait for the printer to do the print head cleaning before sending more jobs to the printer. (It will resume jobs in progress automatically.)

If it takes more than 10 minutes to replace the cartridges, the cartridge carrier will return to the home position. Close the scanner unit and then lift it back up.

I hope this helps.

We refilled our own black ink cartridge this week. The printer worked fine for a while, then all of a sudden the computer says that the black ink is empty and won't print anything. I checked the black ink...

The following may work: remove all the ink supplies. Remove the printhead and soak it for about 5 minutes in 0.5" of very hot water. Gently blot the printhead on a soft damp paper towel to remove the excess water, then replace in the printer and then reinstall the ink supplies.
