If it's a thermal printer, it doesn't use toner, just thermal printer paper (Like fax paper), It's a paper that turns black on heat contact. It doesn't require any ink.

First you'll need to make sure your system has a COM (serial) port. Looks for a port on the pC that has 9 pins (5 on top, 4 on bottom). Get a Null modem DB25-DB9 cable and connect the printer to the PC. That'll take care of the hardware connection. Youll need to know what kind of driver you want to use. POS printers like the Samsung SRP printers either has a windows or OPOS driver. You should have a software you intend to use to print to the printer, so check with the software vendor what kind of driver you need to print. Install that driver, make sure the baud rate on the printer and the driver is matched and your good to go.

This was originally a Samsung printer, and they had plans to release a Linux driver. However after some corporate games it's now owned by Bixolon, and everything Linux has been axed.

Does this happen with all applications? This may be due to the header/footer and margin settings in y our application. You can try opening notepad (Start -> Run -> Accessories -> Notepad) and entering a bunch of text into it. Then print it up and see if there is still all the extra space. If it prints normally, then adjust the margins in your other applications. If it is still not operating correctly, try running the printer diagnostics program to re-calibrate the printer. http://www.samsung.com/support/index.asp
