Anonymous Posted on Sep 16, 2012

My sony cyber shot camera suddenly is saying that my Lexar 4GB CompactFlash Premium Series 80x needs to be formatted. What about my pictures?

I tried inserting my 4GB CompactFlash Premium Series 80x into a card reader to download my pictures. After that I cannot use it back in my camera. How do I get my pictures? Can I fix the CompactFlash card without losing my pictures?

You might have locked memory card. If not first try to connect memory card to PC with memory card reader and try to copy your stuff... then after you take all stuff try to format it.

I have the same camera with the same problem. You can try formatting the card using the camera. With the camera set as if you are going to look at what's on the card, press the Menu/OK button. Move up to the word Format, press Menu/OK button, FORMAT OK? should display. Press Menu/OK button. This will format your card. Unfortunately, I think there is something wrong with my camera. Still getting 'card not initialized'.

I shot alot of pictures on my sony cyber-shot W55 and when i wanted to view them it says file error

It may be a problem with the memory card. Try the card in a card reader or another sony camera. If it works ok then, you've a camera problem.

If it fails also, it's a card problem, the files are corrupted somehow, the only thing in this case is to re-format the card in you camera, it will be one on the menu options.

The trouble is, when you format, it clears every thing off the card.

Another way is to buy a spare memory card, always handy, if that work ok straight away, again your first card has a problem and probably needs formatting.

My memory stick does not have a lock or unlock position.

Do not use the computer to erase a memory stick. If your pics are safely on the computer and you want to completely erase the stick, use the format function in the camera.

The CF card has nothing to do with the information that is sent to it. It is just a recordable medium that stores what the camera sends to it. There is some other problem with the settings of the camera that caused the photos to be underexposed. Do you use RAW mode for capture of the images? If you do then the Canon RAW conversion software can batch process the photos to correct the exposure.
