I have an acer aspire 4720z. It was just fine until about a week ago and now it won't boot up. It will turn on and go from the white Acer screen to the boot menu, where it gives the options of 'Start windows normally' and 'Launch startup repair'. No matter which I choose, it goes to the boot screen where it shows the leading bar, but no windows logo. Then after awhile it goes to a black screen, then a grey one with nothing but the white cursor showing. I've tried pressing F12 and repairing from there, but no luck. Going to advanced boot options and going to 'Last known good configuration' did nothing either. Any ideas or help? (:

If you can get hold of a windows disc try booting from that and using the repair option.

It might also means that your hard drive is not working properly. My laptop's hard drive went out making the same blipping sound and white screen after that, this happens some times for over heating. Now if you get a error number let us know it might help

SOURCE: Windows failed to start !...

Hello

You seem to know a bit about computer so I will give you a good detailed solution which might be of help. READ CAREFULLY

ASSUMPTION:

I guess that the main issue here is that your hard drive might be corrupted. I am also afraid that you might have erased or repartitioned your computer on a previous occasion if the recovery is not working. Please not that the Acer 5920 you mentioned has an automated system recovery system saved on to your hard drive. Did you by any chance Reformat the whole thing when you got the laptop? Because if thats the case and you removed the EISA partitions there is NO WAY you are going to get the recovery to work.

SOLUTION 1: USING RECOVERY CD's or DVD's

If you backed your system up when you first bought it and you created the CD's DVD's boot from them and recover the system that way. I am afraid that these will erase your C drive and will restore it to the original state when it was at time of backup. BEFORE all this you need to recover any data? In that case do the following:

1. remove the hard drive if you have important data.
2. Put it in a hard drive enclosure (which plugs in USB) and hook it up to another computer XP or VISTA doesn't matter both should work fine.
3. Then backup the folders you would like to make a copy of onto the hard drive of the other computer.
4. Then connect it back to the laptop (obviously make sure that when you remove and plug in this hard drive the laptop is off). And perform the recovery.

SOLUTION 2: If still all the above doesn't work.

If you do not need to backup anything there is no need to do the first 3 steps but you will need another computer

1. Do steps 1 to 3 above to make sure that you backup everything at least
2. Go to my computer on this to which you connected the drive computer Format the hard drive of the laptop (Making sure that before this step you backed up all the important data because you will lose it!)
3. Perform full format (this will take a while) and format it as NTFS, while formatting see if you can hear any funny noises. It could be a good sign that the hard drive is out. During format you should almost hear nothing. if you hear a repeated CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK type of noise. Get another hard drive and repeat the above 3 wsteps
4. Get hold of an XP or VISTA installation disk according to what you had on laptop
5. Go to acer website and download all the drivers for the laptop you have and burn them on CD. If you already have a driver disc of the laptop you can skip this step but make sure that you have everything you need on it
6. put hard drive back in Acer 5920
7. Boot from the installation disk XP or VISTA. HINT KEEP the SAME OS if you had XP install XP ... if you had VISTA install VISTA
8. When it asks for serial number look underneath the laptop and key in the serial number from the fancy label you have underneat. It should be a 20 numbers and letters separated by (e.g. xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx)
9. Follow instructions and perform a full install
10. Now install all the drivers you have on that disk. These are like small programs. Install one after the other until you install them all. Reboot when asked to reboot... Do not choose reboot later!
11. Phew by now you should have a laptop working again. Isntall office antivirus and antispyware software and GET BACK the data from the other machine.....

SOURCE: Acer aspire one not booting

your laptop has been turned off without shutting down. all your laptops registries are probably messed up. the easiest way to do is to reformat your computer or restore it to factory settings. unless you have some important files that you cant afford to lose.

SOURCE: My Acer Aspire 4720Z does not boot anymore it

If you get a blue screen that usually means windows has a problem but the laptop itself is fine. You may need to reinstall or restore windows and it should be fine. Annoying but fine.

SOURCE: On startup of my acer aspire 5315 laptop i get the

Hi Charles, I apologize for the inconvenience. In this case what you could try is to get into the BIOS screen for the laptop by pressing the F2 key as soon as you turn on the laptop.Once you are in the BIOS screen please use the right arrow key to select the tab "Boot" below boot make sure that the hard drive is the 1st boot device(you can change the order by using the F5 and F6 keys) and then load the default settings in BIOS using the F10 key and select "YES" and the computer would restart once.In case after performing the above steps the issue still persists then the issue is with the hard drive on the laptop not being detected and if the computer is still covered by warranty please contact Acer and do get the laptop repaired or else you could have a local technician replace the hard drive for you.
Best wishes for your effort.Thank you for your time and patience.

My acer Aspire 3500 wont turn on. It was fine a few hours ago but now wont boot. I keep getting the acer picture featurning the f2 set up and then the screen turns blank with a white flashing - in the left...

if you activity lights on, try connecting to an external monitor or modern flat screen tv. if the screen is flashing then it is probably a screen issue. eg the invertor r screen has failed.

How do i turn on wireless on acer aspire 4720z ?

The far left button below the start button (middle, top) is the wireless button. It seems this button is finicky and the led doesn t always light. Open the control panel and access the Windows Mobility Center at the bottom. The wireless feature enable button will not be accessible if the wireless button is not activated. While on this screen press the far left button that has a dish network symbol and keep pressing it over and over until the button on the mobility center panel is enabled. This is the only clue you will have on whether the button is on or off.

Acer aspire 1 netbook won,t boot up.

Hi
When you first turn the machine on hit F2, that will take you into the bios menu, i don't know what version your machine is using, but the information is usually on the first page, you should find it easy enough because it will be next to the CD/DVD drive.

Acer Aspire 4720Z

Hey there neha patne, based on the info given, my best guess is that your boot sequence is not placing your harddrive as your primary boot device. While you are in the setup screen (via F2), locate the boot sequence line and enter. Change setting to place harddrive as primary boot device, disabling the other options and not leaving it as an auto-detect setting. Save changes and reboot. Also please ensure there are no media in the drives or unnecessary peripherals plugged in while booting up. I hope this helps. Good Luck.
