I can hear a high frequency noise from the DVD recorder. It stops when I unplug it, so I know it is this device.

If you can remove the cover of your dvd recorder, then access the power supply board first check if their is bulging capacitor or transformer which emits the noise.if ok, observe if the noise is coming from the dvd burner during recording.

The manual says to press the display button (just below the eject button) on the remote. This worked for me.

SOURCE: Toshiba DVR recorder incorrect disk message

You could try the factory initializing process I found on another webesite (AVS Forums): "Had this message pop up a few weeks ago. Tried the solutions in the manual, no go. Tried unplugging it for 7 days, no go. Called Toshiba customer service @1-800-631-3811, the tech told me: 1) turn on TV and set to receive your DVD signal 2) Turn on DVD player and remove any discs 3) put Dvd / VCR selector on DVD 4) at the same time, push channel selector button UP (^) along with the PLAY button 5) hold the buttons down until TV screen shows "Initializing" message, release buttons, let DVD player go thru it's reset cycle and shut down 6) turn DVD player on and watch your DVD movies now Works like a charm. Put this in your manual for the next time." My unit has not worked since December of last year, I only had it for one year and it conveniently stopped working right after the one year warranty. My unit was not functioning whatsoever past turning it on, but when I did the factory initialization I was able to operate my unit again....UNFORTUNATELY, it still does not read disks, I still get the "Incorrect Disk" message. I guess I could consider it progress. But still try it, it may work for you. My unit just seems to be fried beyond repair. If anyone has any suggestions on how to correct the incorrect disk problem, I would be greatly appreciative. I'm not ready to throw mine away yet!

SOURCE: recorded dvd's won't play on other dvd players Toshiba d-r410

You can play these recordings without finalizing them in the D-R410, but if you want them to play
in other DVD players, they need to be finalized. See pages 28 to 32 in manual. If you want to
finalize the disks you've already made, follow the directions on page 32.

Have a toshiba tp 61H95 proj TV- want to connect panasonic dvd recorder and toshiba vhs recorder so I can copy family videos to dvd- can't get hook ups set up for both to work.

Select AV-1 or some thing in TV and plug DVD recorder Video-Audio output in AV-1 input of TV, playback any DVD and confirm its picture and sound in TV. Press Stop button of DVD recorder to stop playback.
Now plug Video-Audio output of VCR in DVD recorder input and select AV Input in DVD recorder, insert VHS tape in VCR and playback it and confirm you get VHS picture and sound in TV via DVD recorder.
Hookup between TV, DVD recorder and VCR is completed.
Playback VHS tape in VCR, Insert blank DVD disc in DVD recorder and press Record while you see VHS tape picture in TV.
Hope this info will help you.

Disc not reading. toshiba dr420 dvd recorder.

Multiple problems with the DVD recorder one of them could be the lasers not reading correctly its software is messed up or there something wrong with this but to me it sounds more like the DVD recorder has a problem I've experienced this problem before not with this particular type of DVD recorder I fix the problem by unplugging the DVD player for about 20 seconds to a minute to give it a good reset.
Quick tip: most high Tech Device problems or unknown errors can be fixed by simple restart or reset hope this helps
