Tomtom 700 in a standby mode

Hi, I have a GPS 700, it was functioning normally on a trip, when suddenly the image on the screen was the little hands of tomtom. I thought it would be temporarily, but nothing happened later. I tried reset, it went off. And then when i turned it on again it stayed on the "hands screen". When i keep the power button pushed for a couple of second i can see the caracteristics and it said that it was in a stand by mode. Also, the only way of turning it off is by reseting it. I would really apreciate help. Thanks, Juan

There are 2 types of reset. 1/ ( A Soft Reset ) is where you simply hold the reset button in for about 2 seconds. 2/ ( A Hard Reset ) is where you hold the ON Button pressed then press the rest button at the same time for around 2 seconds.

As one of the above solutuions says to start with the memory card , I thought I had better comments because the tomtom 700 doesn't use a memory card , it has an internal hard drive. Its likely that a tiny part of the software isnt loading properly . More than likely it's somehow become corrupted on the hard-drive. You should use TomTom home to format the drive then reinstall everything again. This is almost guaranteed to cure your problem unless of course the internal drive has developed a fault . Keep your fingers crossed. Good luck.

This might be worth a try. Go to this link and download the file . This is a startup software fix that clears the flash memory on the tomtom 5xx and 7xx series. http://tomtom.gps-data-team.com/get.php?...

Hi Juanin, just posted this for a near identical problem with a Tomtom 700; When you get this kind of problem with a Tomtom device always start with the memory card, so: 1: remove the card, clean the contacts and if you have an air duster (available from any good hardware store/electronics store) clean the card slot, then reinsert it. 2: make sure the card is readable on your PC to ensure it doesn't have a problem. if this doesn't help then 3: format the card and reinstall the maps & software on to it. 4: make sure the card is reinserted correctly. Next is the battery, leave the device switched on until the battery runs out, switch it on again and it should stay on for a moment then switch its self back off, repeat this until it will not switch on anymore and then charge it for at-least 16 hours before trying it again, this will re-calibrate the battery. Diagnosing a problem is a process and this is just the start of it, don't be disheartened if this doesn't help, just message back with the results.

Hi my tomtom go 700 will not switch on beyond the home screen, then a flashing red and white cross is permanently on the screen is this problem fixable ?

Sounds like you tried to upgrade and something went wrong.
If there is a reset button on the bottom or back that'll be your best bet. The red X means it cannot find the operating system but usually a hard reset will fix it.

Tomtom 700 dead

After checking around around the web it seems that you are not the only one to get the green screen of death. My suggestion is to hold reset for several seconds, release reset and hold the power button button for 10 seconds. If this doesn't work the only other option is to let the unit sit for several days to let the internal battery completly drain, once drained theirs a good chance it will function normally, this allows any temporary memory to be cleared. Good Luck & hope this helps L8R

Tom Tom 700 will not turn on.

Take a look inside your tomtom go . The photo's uploaded are of the GO and Go 300 / 500 / 700 10676aa.jpgseries so yours might not look exactly the same but will be similar to these. SEE PHOTO of the IC's highlighted RED. U24 is on the same side of the circuit board as the card reader. U25 is on the same side of the board as the power socket. These are the 2 chips / IC's that will be blown if reversed supply or more than about 6 volts has been applied. The blown components are usually blown due to attaching the WRONG charger or a faulty charger. ( the tomtom cigarette lighter leads often go faulty ) These IC's are very very small ( just 3.5mm across ) and the 10 pins ( 5 on each side ) are even smaller and very close together therefore normal soldering ability will not allow a novice to replace them. Special soldering irons are needed , magnifying glass or special microscope for electronics + a steady hand and good light. Its highly unlikely that a home repair is possible. Besides that , even engineers with years of soldering experience have great difficulty replacing these components and it often takes me 30 minutes just to replace one of these IC's and I have a steady hand. Most normal electronics repair companys cannot repair this type of component as they will normally deal with bigger things. So unfortunatly, your "corner of the street" TV repair shop won't be able to fix it for ya either. As far as I know TomTom don't repair these IC's either as its too fiddly and time consuming and for them not worth the effort. Your only hope is one of the repair people offering this service on online . Try a look on ebay under "faulty tomtom" .
