Hello, My headphone socket doesn't appear to work. I've plugged in two different headphones and neither seem to work as the sound still comes out of the main speakers. Any ideas?
Please ignore - User Error!!! I didn't realise that the main volume and headphone volumes are separate. If you're going to use a headphone though I suggest getting one with an inbuilt volume control so you don't need to keep going to the headphone menu to chnage the volume. User problem!! The main TV volume and the headphone volume work independently so you can have the TV volume set at zero and use the headphone volume. However I suggest getting a pair of headphones with it's own volume control.

try a new set of headphones.. if that doesnt work then i would see if you can see any dust in the headphone socket.. maybe try putting a coctail stick in and see if anything comes out.. please be gentle though. if nothing comes out you could need the headphone socket repairing
If your speakers work fine when plugged into the headphones socket on the front of the system, then there is no fault with them. If the sound through the speakers is very low when plugged into the rear panel socket, that would suggest that you may be plugged into the line out socket rather than the speaker socket and that there is a mismatch of the impedence between the socket and speakers. If you have three audio sockets on the rear panel, try the speakers in the second output socket (but not in the microphone socket) and see if it makes a difference. You could try the same test using the headphones - do you still get good sound levels with the headphones when plugged in to the rear panel socket? If neither the speakers nor headphones give good sound when plugged in to the rear panel, then you may have a problem with either the sound card if the sockets are on a separate PCI card, or with a poor connection on the cable to the socket header bracket from the motherboard pins for audio for integrated adapters.

What sort of receiver is it? I have seen many headphone sockets fail from having a mud wasp nesting inside the socket. It is perfect for them, and hard to detect sometimes, just a socket full of dirt. and a crappy feel to the plug socket combo. Sometimes the sockets also get damaged from plugs being wrenched out by forgetful teenagers, or a gumby walkby picking up the cord doing same. Anyways, if you are getting audio out of the amp, and the H/P are ok, it can only really be a faulty socket. It will need to be replaced. SOMETIMES headphones ahve inline resistors fitted also. They may have been burned out. ChecGood luck
try using colored wire with the copper....colors act as sound carriers and copper acts as power only connect the copper one with ONly 1 color tho .......just try having everything on and just touching the wires together before sodering
