This shouldn't happen like this. Samsung champ supports playback of 3gp and mp4 vedio formats, but if it is still not playing, then you have to contact samsung customer care for your inconvenience or you can take it to the service center of samsung.
To be frank, this problem is being faced by many people. Some can play them, some can play some, some can't play anyone of them and some can play only QCIF format. This is a software problem of the phone. Only samsung themselves can resolve this issue.
