Hello, I was looking to upgrade the ram in my old dell 5150. The specs say you can use a Max of 4 1 gig sticks yet these specs where released prior to windows 7 ultimate which uses far more ram. What are my chances of trying to install 4- 2 gig sticks or better yet 4 - 4 gig sticks? Will the computer recognize the additional ram over the 4 gig Max it suggested? Will the computer simply not run or will I blow something trying this?

Check www.crucial.com. Use the downloadable program to analyze your system or use the interactive menu system to explore your options.

Check online forums using google searches for terms like 'dell 5150 memory upgrade'. Sometimes, the maximum in the manual is not the real maximum. My Dimension 1000 laptop accepted a certain 1 GB card when the manual said the max was 256MB. Still running it after nearly ten years. The laptop was **** with 512MB (256 built-in and 256 add-on card) but the gf uses it every day.

Remove the ram you just installed. Then go http://www.crucial.com/ Let them scan your computer and they will tell you exactly what type ram you need to install.

Check speed settings in BIOS, make sure that the sticks are the correct voltage for your motherboard. If the specs are correct, try a program like memtest86. This will tell you where the problem is, but it is up to you to find which stick that location is :) Might take some trial and error before you find the defective one!

I have a Intel D102GGC2 motherboard with Intel Pentium D 805 processor having core speed of 2.667 GHz. I was using a 1GB of Dynet RAM (DDR2-667 MHz) earlier. Recently, I got a Transcend 2GB DDR2-667 MHz...

specs on that board from Intel is 2 gig max. when you install the 2 gig alone does it show you 2 gig in windows or only 1?......with a 2 gig max I would think that would max each slot at 1 gig...

Gateway desktop fx 7026 memory issue, has 4 slots came with( 2 )2 gb sticks = 4 gigs it came with. when i add 2 extra gig it doesnt recognize.

the specs i read says 8 gig is the max. here is what it says for RAM
RAM
  • Installed Size 4.0 GB / 8.0 GB (max)
  • Technology DDR2 SDRAM
  • Memory Speed 667.0 MHz
  • Form Factor DIMM 240-pin
  • Features Dual channel memory architecture
  • Configuration Features 2 x 2 GB

check to make sure you have added the right type of memory. also look at your user manual. it should tell you where and how to place the added sticks. sometimes they have to be added in pairs or have to be in specific slots. also if you dont have the manual it is on the gateway site. you should type in your model and serial number and get all the info you need.

Problems with Foxconn 6100K8MA-RS Motherboard memory upgrade

This is an oldtime POST code memory error. Likely that ram is either installed wrong, bad RAM or the mobo doesn't like one of the memory sticks.

See http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm.

You must count the beeps.

The memory appears to be the right kind.

Try installing just one 1GB module, and run the diagnostics (press F12 at boot time and select diagnostics).
