Fuji Zoom Error Message

Ronald, There is no easy fix, you?ll have either disassemble and get dirty, or take to an authorized repair person. This zoom error problem is usually caused due to dirt or dust in the zoom mechanism. If you think you can handle disassembling the camera then grab a set of gentile screwdrivers and follow these instructions: You will have to remove a few circuit boards in order to get to the zoom mechanism.

I cant believe that trick worked. Awesome, now I can take pics and prove to my friend that I made out with a big 'un.

Try pushing the lens downward, and apply a gentle force pushing and pulling the loens while the camera is still turned on. Then turn it off and on again and again. Making sure that the lens moves outward and inward. At first it won't move. apply a gentle force. and your problem will be fixed.

Used the "Telephone Trick" as posted on this site on my 2800. I figured nothing ventured nothing gained as it is my backup Fuji. After about 5 minutes of fine tuning using this method the camera was as good as new. Thanks!

This happened with my Fuji J50 camera. I put the camera in its pocket while it working fine, then come back to use it to find this error. It can't take pictures or doing anythig, it will shut down immediately after starting ang displaying this error. I noticed that it opens the lens at half zoom so I tried to pull the lens, the first try failed but in the second I could pull it. When shutting down the lens still opened!!! Then I started the camera again and shut down it with pushing the lens. After that I started the camera and shut down it and all things okay. Try this :)

It snowed here in Mississippi last weekend and I used my son's Fujifilm FinePix A400 to take our snow pictures. I thought it must have gotten wet inside the lens and didn't know what to do. Hi! my sister dropped my finepix onto the floor, and when i picked it up, the lenses were all out of place. so i just moved them around. so now the problem is solved. the zoom error is fixed, trouble is the lenses dont ¨push back in¨. any tips?

Fuji S7000 'zoom error' remedy.
Before you start to do anything make a tiny mark on the outer ring (not the focus ring). that lines up with the bottom screw. This is for ease of reassembly, making sure that the holes are lined up exactly to accept the screws again.
Leave the FULLY CHARGED batteries IN!
You will need a set of watchmakers screwdrivers, a white sheet and a steady hand.
Cover your table with the sheet, 'cos its clean and easier to find things when you need them. OK now the scarey bit..(naaaah!)
As you look at your camera, you will see 3 tiny screws on the casing closest to the focus ring in the 2, 6 and 10 o'clock positions if you look head head on.
Using a CORRECT! size screwdriver gently remove all 3 and keep SAFE.
LAY THE CAMERA ON ITS BACK (LENS UP)!
Don't want any bits dropping out do we?
Now with a thin FLAT headed screwdriver, gently remove the focus ring and assembly by gently teasing behind the focus ring all the way around bit by bit.
The 3 part unit can then be easily removed. This is made up of the focus ring, a white crown wheel and the outer (top) ring.
See the cut out part on the main part?, this goes over the little black gear wheel that the focus ring turns. For clearance.
Gently clean around the area.
If the lens is out you should be able to gently wiggle it back into its correct seating. Try turning the camera on and off a few times and you will hear the welcome sound as the lens pops in and out.
Before you reassemble test all the focusing as if you were going to take a picture. Switch off.
Reassembling....
Take the batteries OUT!
Turn on its back again and put the focus ring (White gear inside) and very gently lining up with your marks to line up screws tap in the large outer ring. Tap very gently (with an ordinary wooden screwdriver handle, wrapped with cloth). around the ring in a circular motion so as to keep things level. If all goes well it should all be easy-peasy providing you are lined up correctly. If not gently tease out the ring again and turn slightly until lined up again.
I took 3 goes.
Re-insert the screws (dont over tighten), your not putting a car engine together!
Test and test again.
BINGO! problem solved..... it worked for me. Yipee!

Thank you so much, lizK76. Your post gave me the guidance and courage to take apart my own Fuji S304 after I got the dreaded "Zoom Error" after a weekend at the sand dunes... I tried the "telephone trick" but it didn't make a difference. Last night I **carefully** took everything apart and cleaned the sand off, but when I put it all back together, the camera was completely dead. I double checked that all the circuit boards and bands were connected, and put fresh batteries in, but still nothing. I'm wondering if this is really the end... any tips would be greatly appreciated! HAHAHA incredible, was worried about new J50 had for 4 weeks and a "zoom error" appeared. came to post and everyone said the "telephone repair trick" well I didn't want to do it but seemed the best solution.... well it worked like a charm

I had this problem with my Fujifilm E900 under warranty, and Fuji replaced the zoom mechanism. Nine months later, this past weekend, the same problem occurred. I appear to have solved it by gently but persistently wiggling the lens into a fully zoomed-out position, applying silicone spray to the lens barrel such that some of it dripped down into the space between the lens and the camera body and between the two parts of the lens barrel, and then repeatedly turning the camera on and off, wiggling the lens barrel, until it began to move freely again. Then I zoomed in and out until the silicone spray appeared to be dry. So far, I've tried zooming it in and out about 50 times in a row, with no problems. The clue, to me, that this might work is that the spray initially seeme to make the problem worse. That meant it was getting to the gear mechanism. Once the solvent part of the spray dried, it wall worked smoothly.

Totally despaired- zoom error, lens locked . lens absolutely locked. found this site, pushed the lens, screwed the lens etc, hit it 3 or 4 times. like lazarus, joyfully, it started working again. falling in love with it all over again now. whoever sussed that out= thanks a million.

Omg the telephone repair trick worked!!! It took me about 25 slams though so don't lose hope!! Maybe im weak :/ bahaha

then i thought i am probably not hitting it hard enough, and it is not working so what have i lost

so i hit it harder on a chair, some minor scratches
then i could hear it was trying to work and moved a little

so i did it again

I were desperate cuz my s1000 have only two weeks of using, i've just hitted the camera with a book for a minute and when i turned on the camera the lens came out!!

Telephone trick guy is awesome. I bought a digicam for my daughter and it had a cracked screen. Store would not take it back because they said it could have been my fault. I took out my old fuji after reading this post, beat it, and it works. One happy 8 year old.

Omg...it worked!!!!! i spend so much time looking for a store that would fix this problem...they also suggested i buy a new camera because the repairing is really expensive..but after reading this i slammed my camera 5-6 times on the bed...first it didn't work..but while i did it couple of times it finally worked..omg i can't believe it...i m soo happy...i would suggest everyone who have this problem to try this...btw i have finpix f460...and i don't even know why it had this problem :s

OMG You just saved me! I am on holiday in Thailand and experienced the zoom error - frankly not pleased as I would have no pictures! I was pretty sure the camera is full of sand inside but there is no shop here that would fix it and I could not manage to do it myself. Well the Old Telephone Repair trick worked - I was pretty sceptical about it! But it worked!

I have just encountered the same problem with my Fuji A600. The Zoom froze half way out. I simply tapped it with a little bit of force a few times and the zoom retracted and all is well again with the camera. I would recommend trying this first before opening up.

The "Old Telephone Repair" trick works. Just did it. I'm quite baffled because it didn't seem like a very credible way of fixing something, but it did. Quite well, actually. Maybe we can fix all delicate electronics by giving them a little more authority. Thanks for that brutal solution!

Haha... I've used that old Telephone Repair Trick on a lot of other things besides phones & cameras. My camera had the zoom error message as well. I slammed it on the lens side then I removed the batteries and wiped them off. I put them back in, and problem solved!

Hi, I have had three fugifilm cameras. The last one had zoom errors, I could not afford the fix, so I used my old Telephone Repair Trick. I slammed it forcefully against a hard object. When I slammed it on the lens side, the problem went away. I have done this twice on two different fujifilm cameras. It worked both times. Joseph
