Hello! After a few days of don't use it I found my TI-89 Titanium calculator with frozen screen in the apps menu, I have tried the next resets: On reset (removing one the batterty), 2nd left right On reset, (-) and ) reset, I have tried connect it with PC and try to install the OS but the PC doesn't detect the calculator. Also I have opened it and cleaned with compressed air everything and tried all over again but the apps menu screen still is there. Would you care to help me? Thank you in advance.
Remove the small memory battery, and then remove one of the four AAA batteries, then while holding down the APPS button reinstall the AAA battery and then it should say waiting to recieve operating system then hook it up to your computer with the silver connect cable and then on the computer send the operating system to the TI89 Titanium, and wait for it to install completely and it should work.
This will work if the factory reset doesnt work.
Though your method was really helpful, it didn't work unfortunately. The good thing is that my calculator is recognized by the computer using the Graphlink cable. It is not recognized with the mini usb B. I was able to flash the OS that way using the Graphlink/silverlink cable, but it was still frozen upon completion.
I installed several OS with no luck. I backed up my other 89 titanium and used that back up file to do a restore on the frozen one. Everything was successful, but it's still frozen. I replaced the battery, took out the backup 1.5 v battery, no luck.
I tried to take it apart, but the screws are proprietary, and most of them were out of my reach, due to their depth.
I prayed to God, but no luck lol.
I believe it's a hardware issue at this point, because nothing else would make sense to me.
P.S. The calculator is almost new, I've almost never used it. I believe what initiated the problem is when I tried to connect it to my Voyage 200 using a 2.5mm to 2.5mm cable. I tried the same with the other 89, but nothing happened to it.
The calculator seems to be working again. I just let it sit, and came back several hours later. It was off; I immediately turned it back on and it seems to be working. Not sure whether the problem is going to be recurrent though.

I have the same problem (TI-89 titanium)
1) 2nd+left+right+>on lets me restart the calculator to app menu but is frozen.
2) remove battery>hold "APPS">reinstall battery> "waiting to receive"
3) no connection to PC. I've tried latest version TI connect, restarting computer, reinstalling TI Connect software + restarting PC, new cables, and even different usb ports. I even tried different computers, Windows 7, Windows 10, and MAC with TI connect 4.0. But the problem is TI-89 calculator is not showing up on the device manage USB ports....
Lastly) it would be a waste to discard the calculator when it seems mechanically functional and responsing to the 2nd+left+right+on and battery+APPS procedures, but locked in software...
still looking for a fix.
Did you ever manage to fix your calculator? I am having the same problem

You have a older Ti89 /Ti83 APP or software on your calculator that you have to have a key, a proper serial number and a certificate in order to run on your calculator. Like my calculator has certificate #19 which allows me to operate a certain APP that is not issued any more. You need to get rid of that APP or software and update it with the new version. Obviously, you did not just download this recently from Ti89 \ Ti83 or Calculus Made Easy. This should give you a clue to what you did wrong. I don't think Nils at Calculus Made Easy or Ti89 \ Ti83 will give you a certificate but, they will help you with your software needs. K24674 instruction to you on how to reinstall the OS v2.09 for Ti89 is correct. Just don't try reinstalling the APP's or software that you had on the ti89 \ Ti83. Go to the Ti89 \ Ti83 APP's and programming sites and download and install the new updated versions of those APP's and software for your calculator.
Testimonial: "Sorry to hurt your feelings. Didn't mean to. I gave him kudos for a great job. BTW, I just bought the calc and dislike being called a thief.thank you2"
Warning!!! If you do this procedure make sure that your computer and, calculator are connect. Use Ti Connect software and, make sure you can install the OS on the calculator without any interruption. At any time even at the very beginning of this process, if your computer or, calculator gets interrupted or you have a power failure during the installation of the OS, your calculator will be destroyed. So not attempt this procedure during a thunder storm.
You can use the Ti OS Downloader but, you will have no idea what OS is stored by the Ti OS Downloader. So, I suggest following my instructions and, installing the newest Ti 89 Titanium OS 3.10v.
Procedure to installing the newest Ti 89 Titanium OS 3.10v.
You can also get the latest copy of Ti 89 Titanium OS 3.10v by going to the Texas Instruments web site. You can get to that site instantly by clicking, "Ti 89 Titanium OS 3.10v." Once your at the Ti site click the Download Item, Ti 89 Titanium OS 3.10v. Next you can login or, click "continue as guest". I'd would click the "continue as guest". Once you have click, "continue as guest" the Ti 89 Titanium OS 3.10v. will download to you. Click, "SAVE". And then a folder will pop up. It is probably a folder that you download too. If so, you may want to change it and, "Save as" to this folder, "My Documents \ My TI Data \ Downloads". You can also go back and, download the Ti 89 Titanium guidebook too, if needed.
Link your computer and calculator with the USB cable or, Direct Black Link cable that came with the calculator.
Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the [APPS] key, and while holding the [APPS] key, replace the battery and turn the unit on. On the older TI-89 you should see "Press I to install code...", and you should press the [9] key to continue. But, on your Ti 89 titanium it should say, "Waiting to receive..." or, "Waiting to received OS...". Now you need to follow the instructions in the paragraph below to restore the calculator's operating system.
Next, drag the Ti 89 Titanium OS 3.10v. that you copied earlier to "My Documents \ My TI Data \ Downloads" out of that folder and, drop it in the "Ti Connect" icon on the desktop. Next the OS Downloader Warning will pop-up. Click, "OK" to continue and, the new OS will begin to install. The Ti Device window should pop up and, click on to the port where your Ti 89 Titanium is located, USB1 cable or Direct Black COM1. Just click, "Select" and, the OS will continue to download. Upon completion the newest Ti 89 Titanium OS 3.01v. will be installed.

I did it as you said Mike, and the calculator is wating to receive the OS but the PC and the TI-Connect don't detect the calculator. It is the right cable.
I used the silver link cable. If you have another TI calculator make sure your using the correct USB port to verify connectivity. Then when it asks for the operating system go to the TI device explorer and select Tools and then Ti OS downloader and select the OS for the calculator that you have, TI 89 Titanium and then select the cable you have and then click start download. The calculator may not be able to recognize that your attached because the memory is locked up. But I did the download from there and I was able to restore my calc from the ER Throw error after the factory reset didn't work. You sound to have a simular problem. Update me what happens.
When the calc says waiting for OS its expecting the OS file to come through the cable and may not have other functionality regarding connectivity.
Make sure your using the correct USB port on your computer. I have another TI 89 Titanium and I hooked that up prior to trying to restore my calc to verify which usb port I was using on the computer as it says USB1 USB2? By holding down the key your trying to initiat an interrrupt when the calc is first turned on so it doesn't get to the memory lock up. Try turning on with the apps button pressed in with the cable attached to the computer and without being attached to the computer.
Does it say that its not detected on the computer? Could you just force to send the operating system? Or do you get an error when you send the operating system?
I can get the Waiting to receive... Boot 2.02 build 2.
But my computer doesn't recognize my calculator, TI Connect can't do it either. I have the Original cable and I have tried with other calculator from a friend (same model) and my PC detects his calculator.
OK, when first turning on the calc, you only have a limited period of time before the memory locks up. First try telling the computer to detect the calc and then turn the calc on, and see if it detects it, if that doesn't work, then tell the computer to detect the calc and then do the reset while the calc is plugged in. You may only have a few seconds before the memory on the calc locks up.Well it may not be able to detect the calculator because it would need an operating system to be loaded from the flashed bios in the calc. Just try resending the firmware agian to the calc.
And specifically specify for the computer to look at USB port what ever so the computer is not searching wrong ports. Make sure the small button cell battery is removed at this time because if its not your not reallly doing a reset. After the calc works then put the small button cell battery back in, and make sure the button cell is good or new.
Or try plugging in your friends calc and then have the computer recognize the calc and then select the operating system for the calc to update and then quickly unplug your friends calc and plug in yours just before sending the operating system.
Just
Are you using the silver link cable? Maybe by using the silver link cable the computer thinks it is connected to the calc, and using a nonsilver like cable the connection to the calc is not easily recognizable. Did you try connecting two calculators together with a cable?
So what ever happened to your calculator? Did you get it to work?
