Canon provides Windows Vista-compatible software and drivers (link) that should be installed in order to facilitate the connection. Some makes/models will 'just work' while others require the extra install first.

This is more than likely a problem in the cameras tapr mechanism and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

To turn off the flash follow the given steps:-

• Turn on your Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera
• Press the Flash Right Arrow button on the four-way control on the back of your camera to display flash options on the camera's LCD screen
• Now push the Left Arrow or Right Arrow button to select the flash "OFF" icon. It's the third icon that display the flash symbol crossed out by a backslash symbol inside the circle.

No, the camera is not waterproof.


Touch the lightning bolt icon area until the flash icon appears on the left side of the display. This will activate the flash.

Touch the lightning bolt icon area again until the flash symbol appears on the LCD screen. This forces the flash function.

Touch the lightning bolt icon area again until the eyeball icon appears on the left. This activates the red-eye reduction mode.

To turn off the flash, touch the lightning bolt icon area again until the no-flash icon (lightning bolt inside a circle) appears on the left.

2.Install a set of new or fully charged batteries into the camera. then turn it ON
3.Press the Flash Status button to scroll through the flash options until Fill Flash (the lightning bolt icon alone, with no other letter or symbol) is displayed. This forces the camera to use the flash.

happened to me too.. only with a sharp vl z3. It happened to me because it was filming while the battery ran out so the film is still in the camera!!! noooo!!! dang it!

The flash icon appears in the upper left corner of display or it appears as circled flash icon? If flash is open and appears a circled icon, then there’s a malfunction contact that don’t communicate to the camera that the flash is open. Your camera needs service! Be sure the upper part of the flash is unfolded, pointing directly in front of the camera (not downward), because the sensor is just in this second folder. If the icon is not circled, press the right arrow until only the lightning symbol appears (forced flash). Try a shot! If the flash doesn’t pops, then your camera needs servicing (burned or broken lamp or other malfunctions).
