Remove and inspect blade for damage. if all is well check flex shaft conection, may have damaged the inner flex shaft or the ends to the flex shaft

SOURCE: I bought a Sears edger #536 796526. It dies on me.

Hi Tom. You are not doing anything wrong. That being said, your edger has a slightly gummed up carbeurator. I would go to an auto parts store and get a can of a product called seafoam. this is a gasoline additive. Add one ounce per gallon of gas and use this as the fuel for your edger. You will solve your problem in just a few minutes after using this product, I believe. Give it a try and let me know.

SOURCE: Sears edger blade stops spinning, spins in air fine

check the clucth assamble in the head of the edger it sounds like it is slipping

Change an edger blade
Start here to find User's Manual. Sometimes the nut/bolt holding the blade on is a Left Hand thread and requires CW turning to loosen and remove. Not sure on this model.

The service centers have stated in unison that it is no longer "cost effective " for them to repair these. They claim they are a "disposable" item and should be replaced once worn out. This may surprise you, but I suggest that you remove (if you have to drill it out then fine) the blade and attempt to sharpen it some. Or leave it off and replace it with a large cutting razor type blade used for shears etc. They do make sharp blades large enough to do the job. You just have to find them.

Unable to get nut off of a craftsman convertible edger.
Lock on the blade with a pair of ViseGrip Pliers, then try turning the nut, they are installed quite tight, also try clockwise, maybe left hand nut.
