It could be one of several things, a system reset, a firmware update but it sounds like a screen cable has become disconnected or similar fault. Before doing anything, is it still under warranty, if so its best to go back to the vendor or leapfrog and request an exchange. Here's the url to their support page.
This site is worthless...more interested in tricking you with AD links than giving you an answer. Press Volume Down, Home and Right Directional...then power on. Connection screen will appear, connect it to your PC and select repair after tune up is done.
Then delete your profile on here and report the link you followed from google as worthless.
We had the same problem, contacted V-tech, and they provided the below solution's- i tried them all and they worked! :)
Trying new, non-rechargeable batteries is the quickest fix. Be sure that all batteries are replaced at the same time or you will have power levels that are not the same and to use all the same brand of batteries and install them correctly. Also, try resetting the unit by removing the batteries and holding the power button for a few seconds (about 45) Then reinsert the batteries and power on the unit.
Try cleaning the battery compartment with a cotton swab or cloth and blow into the battery compartment to release any accumulated dust and/or debris. Clean the battery contacts with a pencil eraser. After cleaning the battery compartment, install all new, non-rechargeable batteries.
If your product is still not working correctly try this: Remove any cartridges and disconnect any power adapter or remove all of the batteries and leave them out for several minutes. Then reinsert the batteries (be sure they are fresh) or reconnect the power adapter and try your product again
Try cleaning the other cartridges contacts with alcohol and Q-tip. The major problem with the leappad is that the cartridges are failing after the warranty period is over.
Make sure the V.Smile is turned off before inserting the cartridge. If it is still acting funny:
Things you can try to get the V.Smile TV Learning System to work: 1)Press the Reset – Press and hold the ON button for about 10 seconds 2)Make sure the game is inserted far enough into the system, and that it is pointing in the right direction. You may occasionally need to clean the contacts. 3)Also, make sure you are using the supplied power cord/adapter, not batteries.Batteries cause more problems than they’re worth.
