What file format is required to play movies via usb
Depends on what format your video player can support. If you have not download any video players yet, you can first download some free video players on your computer. Mostly, the video player can successfully play your movies.
.avi file format is quite common, although some of the newer multimedia type of tv's play more than one type like .mp4, .flv,.mkv and so on...

OK, well I have used this many many times. You simply need to copy the Movie in any of the Formats that the set can use, and copy the Movie to the USB stick. When the stick is inserted, using the remote you simply "Select" that "USB Input" and select the Movie, and select "Play", IF the right Format, has been used, the Movie will "Play" as if it was a DVD.

You have not mentioned the TV model #.. If your TV does not play avi. files I am sorry to tell you it does not support moving pictures -- it only supports MP3 music files and JPEG picture files !!. Try these two to confirm.
