Panasonic NN-651W microwave gone dead

I've a Panasonic NN-651W microwave. One fine day it stopped working. Even no signs of power to the unit although the power is there in the plug. Shown the piece to an engineer and he said the problem is in front end PCB due to power fluctuation. Please let me know I can get a new PCB online or is it possible to repair the front end PCB.

SOURCE: Panasonic NN- A712 combination Microwave 1000w - Switches off after 20 seconds

The 22 seconds is the giveaway.

In most cases, this is a problem with the inverter or a bad magnetron.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

I would recommend that you contact your nearest Panasonic-authorized servicer.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

If it stops at 16 seconds and is a sensor model, it probably has a defective humidity sensor.

You can order Panasonic parts from Tritronics.

If you reconsider, you can find an authorized Panasonic servicer here.

SOURCE: microwave dead even though power works

It sounds like the magnetron overheated and opened the thermal fuse on the magnetron.

This can be caused when the internal cooling fan is not running or by a magnetron that is failing.

When I say internal cooling fan, I do not mean the hood vent exhaust fan which you can turn on and off manually.

I'm instead talking about the internal fan which comes on automatically whenever you microwave.

It is vital that the cooling fan runs, or the magnetron will be destroyed.

There should be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

The magnetron will have a 5 to 9 year warranty. Your manual will tell you that.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

If needed, GE may send you a replacement magnetron. GE Customer Service is here.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

It could be just the fuse and fixed for a couple bucks. Only way to know is open it up and check it. Eric

Ken,
Usually there is an internal fuse and that is probably your problem. You will need to take off the outside cover of your microwave and then look where the power cord goes into the back of the unit. Look for the black wire coming out of the power cord and follow it. It should take you to the fuse. Hope this helps!

Sounds like a blown fuse. Carefully remove the cover, and the fuse in directly behind the power cord on the top. Radioshack sells 15A ceramic replacements.

In all likelihood the mangnetron is failed or failing, or perhaps even the Power Supply is faulty. You need to have it serviced by a reputable service centre/man.

most microwaves do have an internal ceramic fuse either 15 amp or 20 amp the cover has to come off to locate it usually at the top just behind the control board. do not touch the high voltage capacitor as it holds a charge even when the unit is unplugged.
