Hi, If you picked the right header and it is a Maxxum 55 then it is a 12v motor. So you should hook up your batteries in parallel. This should Fixya!

SOURCE: my brother inlaw got a minkota 40ta all terraine

I would check the battery. If you're using an old or under charged battery you will loose power for sure. Make sure you're also using a 12v deep cycle marine battery as this will ensure proper operation and a longer battery life.

Good battery , good battery in remote 70 lb thrust trolling motor - no go. ?

Hey Rob,, ??? ..Did you have the batteries CCA checked?? Cold Cranking Amps..?.. this is the only check to determine if your batteries are actually "good"...Next, take a volt meter and check the voltage at the trolling motor connection..if you have voltage at the plug, its time to move up to the head of the trolling motor...Since I do not know what brand if trolling motor we are working on.. these guys will take care of you from here...

I have a 74LBS thrust trolling motor that hasn't never in my opion worked right, I don't think its wired right to get the proper 24 volts, However I have took it loose and hooked it directly to 2 marine...

Here is a picture of the wire connection for 24 volt. Compare to yours is it correct? If it is, I wish you listed make and model I could of sent you the right picture diagram of you motor. Use this picture as a starting point. Test the wires through the motor testing for 24 volts. Again if I knew make and model I could show you exactly were. Last if voltage is correct all the way through. The motor is the last thing to tear down. If the brushes or armeture is damaged in anyway, or manufactured wrong, it would lead to power loss.
