Epson RX580 Communication Error During Install

I attempted installation of an Epson RX580 USB printer. Everything works well until the installer directs you to plug in the USB cable. It is here that the problem begins. When you plug in the cable the normal audio tones that accompany the recognition of a USB plug n play device are replaced with what sound like a 'fatal error' audio tone - a series of 3 rapid tones. Moreover, the installer displays ' unable to find printer...make sure the printer is turned on and the cable is connected to any available port'. The installation appears to stop here. I have tried using ports on my USB hum, the front panel ports as well as the back panel ports (on the USB2.0 card) but nothing works. I've tried 4 different USB printer cables with no success. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, both from the install disk and from the Epson web site, with no luck. I've cleaned out the remnants of previous HP printer drivers/files.....I've cleaned the registry......I've cleaned out the spooler files... virus and spyware checks were run several times.....nothing seems to help. I've even tried deleting and reinstalling the printer. On one installation I was able to get a document to print, however successive documents stay in the print spooler - when you try and delete the documents from the spool, all but one can be deleted. When I checked the priority of the documents in the spool, they are all set to the lowest priority (ie 1) instead of the highest priority (ie 99). I don't know what's happening. I have received an Epson pop-up that stated there was a 'communication error' attempting to communicate with the printer. Can you help?? This problem first appeared after I reinstalled Windows XP Home and installed all the updates including SP3. This was necessary as a result of a 'botched' software installation. Prior to that the printer/scanner worked flawlessly. I hope someone can help me figure this out. I also plan to contact Epson tech support.
Sincerely,
Lou

Hey...

I ran into a similar problem (okay, the same problem), and my problem turned out to be my USB cable. I was using an extender. When I ran the cable to the PC without the cable extender, my problems disappeared. If you're not using an extender, you might just try a different USB cable.

Hope that helps...

What does Communication Error mean?

I am guessing that you are using Windows 7. If so go to Control panel 'Hardware and Sound' Printers and select Remove a Printer. You may then unplug the printer usb connection and restart your computer. When the computer has restarted , you may go to the link below to download the most current drivers and install them .
Do not plug in the usb connection until you are told to do so. Also, the printer may select a default connection to LPT1 , which is a parallel port connection (apparently this printer likes to do so , and this will give you your "communication error" ). If it does, go to printers in control panel (see above) , right click on the icon for your printer , select "properties" , and left click on the " ports " tab. Make sure that the port selected is USB001 or similar and NOT LPT1.

Printer not responding is error message I have tried all fix ideas I can find any suggestions

It is hard to reply without knowing what your actual attempted fixes were. I have the online Manual and the main solutions, if the error message was on the LCD, were focused on the Fine cartridges..making sure they were installed properly and if you might possibly be running out of ink.

Communication problem printer lexmark2600

With the Lexmark printers communication subsystem you MUST let the driver ask for you to plug in the printer. DO NOT plug the printer into the USB port until told to do so.

To fix a fouled install:
(1) Uninstall the Lexmark drivers in Add Remove Programs
(2) Shutdown the computer
(3) Disconnect the printer from the USB port
(4) Restart the computer
(5) Run the Driver Installation software
(6) Cancel ALL attempts by windows to auto install the printer
(7) When the software asks for the printer connect it and continue
