Homelite weedeater mod. 26cs

This is my 2nd brand new mod. 26cs weedeater since spring this year. both of them exhibit the same characteristics. Neither will stay running after starting. I followed directions explicitly but won't stay running. This is particulary frustrating as my weeds are continuing to grow! I called Homelite service and they told me that this problem is very prevalent with this product and told me to take it to a service center. I did and they won't service Homelite products! Needless to say this is the last time I'll ever purchase another Homelite product!! Incidentally, I pulled/cleaned the plug, (many times) and changed gas numerous times and checked the ratio of 2cycle oil to gas. Again this latest one I purchased only has about 2 hrs of run time. By the way, there is no foam air filter as described in many reviews on the internet... just a plastic cover and it is clean!

Try going to ebay and finding a carb for the model, some are as cheap as $12.

SOURCE: carburetor adjustment for Homelite 2 cycle engine

I have the same problem with my MightyLite 26cc Blower/Vac. If it does start it runs rough on full choke and stalls on 1/2 choke or run. I've tried everything, fresh fuel, Seafoam, etc. Nothing works. First time I used it the exhaust burned a hole in my brand new Carhartt hooded sweatshirt. Best solution, throw it away, never buy another Homelite product and tell anyone who will listen what a piece of junk Homelite products are.

SOURCE: wont start

Maybe,(as with my 1999 25cc) the fuel lines are leaking air at the tank, or the joiner of the fuel lines are cracked, if it is a new one, I would take it back and get one out of the box.

Weedeater and Homelite shafts interchangeable?

Just give it a try. Some different brands will interchange. I have done this with a Toro and it is still running.

The head keeps falling off my weedeater brand weed eater

Add a split washer. Turn it tight enough to compress the split into a flat washer. The spring tension of the washer will hold it on. If not, you will need to add some Loctite.

I have a Homelite Mighty Lite 26cs gas weed **** and the starter cord will not retract into the weed ****. How can I get it to retract so it can be pulled to start the weed ****?

This is somewhat common in the the "zip start" machines. The recoil pulley is 2 plastic housings with a round coil spring between them. It is designed to need less effort to pull and start the machine. When pulled on with great effort/frustration, the middle spring bends and damages the upper housing. The only semi-permanent solution is to replace the pulley assembly. The part is relatively cheap thru Homelite.com. If you can do it yourself, go for it. A repair shop will most likely charge you $20 to $40 in labor to do this.

Once you have the string wound onto the spool, place the spool onto the shaft and pull the strings out of the slots so that the string feeds through the holes without going through the slots. Good luck...Lee
