Install the sound driver first before trying to install the other drivers. Do not run the other installer like graphic driver, modem driver, wireless LAN drivers, USB 2.0 driver, SATA driver, webcam driver, and anything else, before your audio driver have successfully installed into your Windows XP so you wont have further issues the sound driver should be included in the cd that came with the laptop but you can down load it here select the driver and down load http://komku.blogspot.com/2008/01/windows-xp-and-aspire-4720-travelmate.html hope this help pls appreciate by rating as fixyaa.thanks and God bless

When i installed realtek high definition audio driver in my acer aspire 4520 os xp i found a modem device on high definition audio bus. the sound not working
Try downloading the drivers from the Acer WEB site. Make sure youselect the model of your laptop and the XP or Vista version of the drivers youthat require and it matches the Windows version that is installed on yourlaptop. Use this link to get to the Acer support: -

Hi,

You can reinstall the sound drivers from the Acer recovery management, to do so:
Start Menu> All Programs> Acer erecovery management> Restore> Restore Application & Drivers> Contents> Select Realtek and install it

OR

Got to http://gd.panam.acer.com/home/
Select the computer model
Select Operating System installed on your computer
Click Drivers
Select Audio (Realtek) and download it.
Once downloaded, install it on your computer.

the only thing i could tell you is to try to reupdate the divers through the device manger if this does not work then you might of blown the soundcard in the machine
