Sporadically our built in microwave oven "turns on" when the door is opened. In other words, upon opening the door, the light turns on, the fan starts, the turntable rotates and for all I know radiation is streaming into the oven and out the open door. After shutting and re-shutting the door a number of times, the situation returns to normal with the fan/turntable etc. not activating until the user presses "start" which is as it should be. What's going on here, and is it possible the oven is actively heating if the door is open? Seems like a major safety problem so appreciate qualified input.
Quite often this is due to a bad door switch. Opening the door while cooking (without first hitting the STOP pad) is the primary cause of door switch failure. It's probably not actually heating with the door open, but better safe than sorry!
