The battery replacement for the PRONTO is not a consumer level maintenance procedure.
However, I just replaced the 4 original EMX1600sS batteries by anotther model with the same specs and my PRONTO is working fine now. The battery model is
Tenergy 2/3A Size Rechargeable Battery 1.2V 1600mAh NiMH W/ Tabs
Those are a little smaller than the originals but with the same capacity of 1600mAh and can be easily found in the web.
There are other similar models available that could be used but have in mind the limitations for the dimensions and capacity in mAh.
The dimensions of the original cylindrical batteries are aprox. 33 mm (1 1/4") X 22mm (7/8").
Anything under those specs should work.
Good luck.

Muraum, Thanks for the info. Easy to find the batteries on the web. $15 with shipping. I love a cheap easy fix. There was no way I was going to buy another vac just for the batteries!

  • BenShoemaker Aug 31, 2011

If you look closely inside the pronto handheld unit there are actually 8 batteries (8 x 1.2v = 9.6v) which need to be replaced. The actual size of the EMX1600CsS is SUB C. You can replace them with 2000mAh batteries which will last longer:http://www.all-battery.com/nimh45scsubc2...

What's the scoop on the tabs? I get that they attach the batteries, but I'm not familiar with them. Do they just stick on?

  • Steve Nov 17, 2012

Benshoemaker, AWESOME! I did this and it works great. Question though, is it normal air comes out the end of the handle in the square opening ? It comes out like an exhaust, can't remember if this is normal or not.

Benshoemaker - AWESOME. I did this and it works great. Question, is it normal that a lot of air comes out the end of the handle? There is a square opening in the very end, air exits it like an exhaust, I can't remember if it is normal or not?

I believe the air coming out of the square hole IS normal....My Pronto does the same thing!

Have the batteries replaced by batteries plus.. or another full service battery store that does that sort of thing.

Steve,
Just ordered the 2000mAh from All Battery, the size is identical to the Electrolux ones and as you say they will last longer.
I will need to dust off my soldering iron but should be easy replacement. I had been looking for a while but failed to see this type.
Thank you so much.
James

Electrolux 2 in 1 Ergorapido stick Vacuum. Motor runs then cuts out after 3 - 4 seconds. Sometimes it will run properly for 10 minutes so batteries are good. Why does it cut our usually?

If the hand held is working correctly (By itself) try pulling up a little bit on the 4 metal connection tabs on the wand. The connection tabs were not making a proper connection on my unit.

Batteries are not recharging. Where can I get replacements for Model EL1000 Pronto Vac?

Let me say this; The battery replacement for the Electrolux is not a owner level replacement procedure. However, you can replace the 4 original EMX1600sS batteries . The battery model is Tenergy 2/3A Size Rechargeable Battery 1.2V 1600mAh NiMH W/ Tabs Those are a little smaller than the originals but with the same capacity of 1600mAh and can be easily found in the web. Anything under those specs should work. These types of battery's will cost about $15.00 on the web. The battery's are in the hand held unit bottom or back side area, you access them by taking out all the screws in the back side of the hand unit.

I need a new battery where can i get a low

The batteries inside the small hand held are NOT consumer replaceable. They are all soldered in place. If you are a handy with a soldering iron, you can replace the batteries yourself. I did and my Pronto 2-1 runs like new. I had it for about a year then it gradually lost its holding charge. I would only get about 2 minutes before it stopped.
Battery Replacement. First you will need new batteries. The batteries for the Pronto 2-1 are called NiMh 4/5 Sub C 2000mAh w/ TABS and can be purchased at Batteryjunction.com. You will need 8 of them. I paid a total of about $30 shipped. Next. Remove the 4 small screws holding the unit together. Once you have it apart you can get an idea of what is ahead. It took me about 45 minutes to cut out the old batteries and replace with new ones. Here are some helpful tricks. Use a knife to cut off the tab jacket about ¼ inch from the ends on all of the new batteries. Use a pair of needle nose pliers and tear off the battery tabs right off the OLD battery bodies. Replace the batteries ONE AT A TIME except for the group of 4 in the handle. The goal here is to solder the new battery tabs to the OLD battery tabs. This is much easier soldering tabs together than stripping and soldering the wires. REPLACE the batteries exactly how you see them. Add electrical tape where appropriate. Be careful when packaging the batteries back in place. I mentioned replace the batteries one at a time because this will allow you to verify your soldering. Press the on button and you should get the blower going. If not, you have a bad solder joint. Anyway, good luck. Jeff

Roller/sweeper on my Electrolux Pronto

After 3 years my Pronto slowed down and needed new batteries. I just replaced all 8 internal batteries. It cost just under $30 with shipping and took 1 hour of soldering. If you're not handy with a soldering iron, don't attempt it. All of the batteries are soldered together in series. You need to order the 8 (4/5 Sc size, 2000 mAh) Nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries with tabs. The source I used was www.BatteryJunction.com. Here's a link to the battery page: http://www.batteryjunction.com/tenergy-45th-sc-1-2-2000-tabs.html

PS The vac now runs GREAT!
