.mov file not recognized

We took a five minute video with our easyshare and it created a .mov file. The camera won't play it back - says unrecognizable. Quicktime says it's not a file it understands. We would very much like to see if we can get this to work.

Some Mac users have been having trouble playing MOV with QuickTime. The compatibility problem could be the result of the video codec used by the MOV video. If QuickTime doesn't have the right codec or the video codec used by the MOV video is not supported by QuickTime, QuickTime might fail to play MOV. Leawo Video Converter for Mac allows you to convert MOV to play with QuickTime.

Download the file to your computer. That way, you'll be playing it directly from storage, not through an adaptor & cord.

Your 4G card is probably an SDHC card which won't work in your camera. It only takes SD cards.

Cannot see pc MOV or JPG files on flash drive in Canon SX230

Thanks very much for responding to my problem.
It seems Canon will not allow edited pictures or video to transfer from PC to their digital cameras for viewing.
steps to my problem:1. my canon SX230 created all the parts for my WMV video in MOV format originally.
2. created a movie (WMV format) in Windows Live Movie Maker. Works well and plays on my PC (windows 7).
3. after WMV completed - converted to HD MOV format in 2 different file convert programs and with 2 different HD MOV resolution settings on Both programs. WMV resolution is 1920x1080 (HD). ALL 4 MOV videos play well on my PC in 2 different programs.

Steps getting Canon to see video in playback mode.1. copy MOV video from PC to Flash drive in my card reader in same folder as my original JPG & MOV files, then inserted into camera - does not recognize file.
2. copy MOV file from PC to camera with USB cable. Windows error message. Wrong format - would not copy.
3. Formatted flash drive in camera. Took picture to create DCIM folder, JPG image, and CANONMSC folder with M0104.CTG file .Deleted CANONMSC folder. Copied my MOV video from PC to camera (USB cable). this time copy successful. However camera does nor recognize file.
5. tried again except deleted M0104.CTG file but not the CANONMSC folder. no luck.
It seems Canon will not recognize any file that has not originated in the camera AND has not been altered. Upon researching answers on the NET - many other users of Canon cameras have the same problem with no luck.

The .MOV files are apple quicktime files. you can download quicktime or install K-lite codec pack, which will let you open the files in Windows Media player. It may even let edit them in Windows Movie-maker. Cheers.

MOV format

The MOV format is an industry-standard format used by many digital still-picture manufacturers. As with the JPEG format used for still images (the primary purpose of EasyShare cameras), the MOV format provides a video capture file that can be used on most computer operating systems and platforms. Kodak EasyShare digital cameras include the free Apple QuickTime player software. If you are interested in more sophisticated editing capabilities, many MOV editors are available from several companies: QuickTime Pro from Apple Computer Inc. is the initial upgrade package to the free QuickTime player software. Search the Internet using the phrase "QuickTime editing" to find many other sources of QuickTime editing software with a wide range of capabilities.
