Some machine have a button hole lever that has to be pulled
down, before they work.
are you using the button hole foot?
if the machine is mechanical, are all the dials set for button hole?
if the machine is electronic are all the settings correct?
also change the needle
if you have the button hole foot on & the button hole lever is down
& a new needle,, the it is possible that the machine needs to be
checked to see if there is something wrong with the buttonhole
function

SOURCE: Singer 7462 buttonholer

generally most sewing problems are due to sticking parts because of non usage as =you have stated or because the tension has been not set right. what I suggest is that you take the time to do some cleaning of the machine like what bis pointed out in your manual use a light weight mineral oil to wipe the moving parts with, but not too much. also adjust the tension of the foot so there is pressure on the material as to move it while sewing. after all the cleaning and adjusting rethread the bobbin and make sure it is seated properly also rethread the need and make sure the thread moves freely from the spool. this should do the trick. please rate this

Insert the button into the special button hole foot. put the foot on the machine.Pull down the button hole lever( It's near the presser foot lever towards the back of the machine). Place your needle where you want the button hole to be. Select the button hole pattern and press on the pedal. Watch for the end of the button hole.

How do I change the light on Elna 6003. Can I use a LED bulb

An LED bulb, https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/led-bulb-janome-mc9000-led.aspx , is available for the Elna 6003. To replace the bulb, you need to remove the left side face plate. The screw holding the face-plate is hidden behind a button that matches the face plate. Next pull the socket out. Then pull the bulb out of the socket. Push the new bulb into the socket with the pins aligned with the holes in the socket. Push the socket back into the sewing machine and replace the left-side face plate. For an idea of the procedure, see the manual for the Elna 6001, available at ManualsLib. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/378188/Elna-6001.html?page=53 . This is the maintenance page of this manual.

I hope this helps.

Hi I am wanting to do a 4cm buttonhole on my Elna Elina 40. The automatic button hole only goes up to 2.5 cm. How do I do a button hole as long as 4 cm please.

Just stitch the buttonhole without the automatic buttonholer. That's how we do it with machines that don't have the buttonhole function. Buttonholes can be done on any sewing machine that has zig-zag capability. A left/right needle position would be helpful, but if that is not available, just be sure to sink the needle into the fabric BEFORE changing the zig-zag width.

My automatic buttonhole stitch is not working on my elna sewing machine ,even when the lever is pulled down

you should a buttonhole button that must be pushed on the machine
either before you pull the buttonhole lever down or after to let the
sewing machine know what function to use, my sewing machine
won't let me make a buttonhole unless I push the buttonhole button
or yes, like you said the buttonhole foot could be damaged.

Just purchased a Singer 4423 machine, need more detailed instructions for buttonholes

when you press the button hole option & then pull the button hole lever
down it will rest against the button hole foot, having the button in the
button hole foot help the machine gage the size the button hole needs
to be, if the machine keeps on sewing & doesn't stop automaticily then
there is something wrong with the button hole option.
