Is it true that AMD processors in notebooks produce much more heat than their INTEL counterparts????
i have an AMD turion rm-70 processor and i recently downloaded the SPEEDFAN software to keep a check on my notebook.
i was surprised to see temp ranging around 86 C to 96 C.
is it the normal temp for any notebook core(as the software was showing the core temp)???
How harmful are these high temperatures for my notebook in the long run????
Mine is HP Pavilion DV-5 1106-AX.

I have never heard of that about AMD cpus, on the contrary it has always been the Pentiums who overheated, nevertheless, it does sound like you are running a little hot, I would suggest a laptop cooler like an Xpad, that should cool it down down at least 5-10 degrees, try it you will be amazed what a difference they make.
Oh I just realized your reading was in Celsius, that's 186.80-204.80 Fahrenheit, that is is extremely hot and you should not operate at those temperatures you are risking a core meltdown and possibly an electrical fire, I would suggest you chose teh Fahrenheit option in SpeedFan and see if the temperatures coincide and persist. Thanks for posting your problem I was gong to check my own cpu temps and forgot and this was a good reminder to get Speedfan BTW my temps are running at about 129 F and I have a Celeron processor. If your temps coincide and you can't cool down then get the notebook checked before you have some serious problems.

mine is a dv5 1106 ax.. im havng z same overheating problem n worst z windows is shutting down automatically bcoz of z heat..
can any 1 suggest sumthg overher..
I have a HP dv2416us and it has alway run very hot. When I use PC Wizard 2008 it tell me that the video board is running as high as 113 deg C when I have a video playing. The CPU has it 105 deg C in the past and usually runs 85-98 deg C when I am working. The has always been this way. HP came out with a bios change to improve the fan control and these temperature are what I see after the bios update. Lately the display randomly mess up and just look like a bunch of different colored line and the machine will hang up. It does not seem to be related to temperature but who know, a chip on the video board may have gotten to hot and is starting to fail. HP extended the warintee on my machine type to 24 months if the video goes out or the Wifi fails. Great but what about me with a machine that can boil water. FYI if you put the machine on your lap making sure the air vents are clear it WILL burn your legs. I should also add that the temperatures above were measured with the laptop held up in the air well above any surface. So the air flow was as good as it can get. HP screwed me and othes on the laptop and will never admit. Also the battery which I never use went totally bad in less than a year. I think it is because of the heat. This is the last HP I purchase (I have had 3) because of the way they have approache the problem. My advice to others, stay clear of HP you can not trust them to do the right thing.
i have a DV pavilion 4000 i also have the drama of overheating.. i approached HP just after my warranty ran out re the cd and dvd burners not working any more and they did not help. I have taken it to a reparer at my own cost to clean out dust and check fans etc.. it is very frustration since its supposed to be the BMW of computers
dv5 1106ax - constantly shuts down. maybe the fan is not working. how do i find out?
i am also the same notebook which u have. mine also damn heating....for normal usage heating is 70-80.when playing games heating is more 100.mine max temp is 107 deg
