Question about Goodman GMS90703BXA Heater
I have a goodman furnace, and the diagnostic light is blinking 4 times. I removed the access panel and the chart indicates '' open high limit''. What does this mean, and is it something i can fix? I bought the furnace through a ''buddy'' and he installed as a ''side job''. It is a high effiency furnace and is only two years old. I can't tell you the amount of times I have had to call my ''buddy'' to have him come look at it. Anyways, the furnace is out, the kids are cold, it is 5 degrees here, with -25 wind chill, and my ''buddy'' is not answering any of his phones. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ohm out the safety switches also known as the high limits usually at least two on units they look like little buttons, with two wires going to each one. An open high limit will mean the circuit is not closed and allowing for the system to complete the circuitry to fire the heat, best way to diagnose is to jump out the suspected high limit s/w if the unit runs then you have your answer, but never, never leave the high limit switch jumped w/o the switch.

The limit switch is usually a little fiberglass board (2" x 3") with two wires going to it. Usually held in by two 1/4" or 5/16" hex screws. These go bad if you have insufficient air flow through the furnace.(dirty filters, undersized supply or return ducts)
Sometimes they will reset if you tap on them or clean them.
The limit control will have a rating printed on it stating its trip and reset temps.(L170 - 30f or something like that) Make sure to replace it with the same rated switch.

We have the Ameristar furnace and we had a SUPER dirty filter! All of a sudden, we were only getting cool air. The flames stopped coming out of the 4 ports in the base of the furnace and it was just a working "blower" going.
I took the advice of one of the other posts on this thread and I tapped on that circuit board with a piece from my motorcycle trailer. A few sparks shot off - because the metal apparently touched one of the electrical posts and also the little bolt that holds the fiberglass circuit board on. All of a sudden, the furnace got quite...then reset itself and started running again! A nice, orange glow occurred...then blue flames came up! There she was...back again!
Put in a clean filter - and I will NEVER let it get that dirty AGAIN, ever!!!! But these guys know what they're talking about...I just had to confirm that tapping on the circuit board worked for me - instantly!

SOURCE: goodman furnace 4 blinks
In the compartment with the blower moter there is a little (button) with two wires going to it.(it is attached to the top (you will have to look up in the compartment) if the unit is installed up and down and not on the side.) (If it is in sidways it is in the section between the two comartments). anyways.... on mine there is a little reset button right between the wires.... press it and see if it makes a click sound. try your start up procedure and see if the problem goes away... I don't know if MY equipment got too hot or if the switch is failing... but it worked for me.
