SOURCE: kirby vacuum

There are 2 safety switchs, one on the front that the nozzle activates, and one on the side that the bag asembly activates. The motor brushes and/or armature maybe bad.

You have looked into various facts since you are motor engineer

So there can be two problems

  • It Could be the a/c cord, a problem with the noozle not pushing the safety switch, the bag emptor (bottom of outer bag) isn't on the of the way and not engaging the other safety switch

  • Common fault is the mains lead broken internally, unplug from the side of the machine after removing the little cover where the wire goes in. You can use a kettle lead to test the hoover.
If this does not cure it most likely the motor brushes are worn.

Thanks for using Fixya

My Kirby G3 diamond series won't turn on

Hi There, The most common problem by far is that the cord is faulty. This is a pretty easy repair to do at home. If your machine was randomly cutting out before it stopped altogether then the cord is likely the culprit. If however it stopped all of a sudden with no warning then it is possibly a switch or motor issue which is a much harder repair to achieve for a novice.
The kirby cords are not terribly expensive (and I have linked a how to video showing how its done) so if you need a new one I would say DIY is the go, otherwise spend the $25 get a pro to take a look.

My kirby vacuum just quit when I was vacuuming my car

Your Kirby has a cut off switch in the front where your hose attaches and also on the side where your bag attaches. If the plastic prong that activates the switch broke off your hose you vac will not turn on. If you put the head back on and make sure your bag is on correctly and the machine runs, you just need a hose end to fix your problem.

Senteria power will not come on at all

Make sure the bag and the front nozzle are attached all the way. There is a safety switch on the bag and nozzle. If either one of these is not on all the way the machine will not come on.

There is a reset circuit near the cord inlet. Make sure that is not tripped as well. When you plug the machine in listen for a click. If you hear a click and no power then perhaps the circuit breaker is faulty or there is a short in the machine.

How do I attach the hose to a Kirby G5?

UN PLUG THE MACHINE before attempting this. There is a safety switch that prevents you from getting hurt but please just to be safe un plug the machine.

The hose attaches to the front of the machine. You will need to take off the brushroll nozzle first to do this.

Lift the front lid with the light on it. Pull the plastic lever from the front turn knob. Twist the plastic knob until the red markings line up. Turn the metal latch at the top of the nozzle. Pull off nozzle.

Take hose and attach it to where the nozzle was. The little plastic curved hooks on the hose attach to the metal rod. Once you have the hose on turn the metal latch to hold the hose onto the machine the same way the nozzle was held on.

Let me know if you need more help.
Thanks!

Kirby vacuum problem

I suspect the safety/power switch. When nozzle is on the Kirby the protrusion on the nozzle casting must press the switch on the front of the unit (circled in red in the pictures below). See if that protrusion is not chipped off. It may be that a hook or even both are damaged (circled in blue) so nozzle is a bit loose and when you bump something it nozzle moves just releases the switch enough to shut the vacuum off. Hold the nozzle and try to move it. See if it is loose on the unit or not.
It could be the faulty switch too.

ensure the safety switches are made properly by making sure the front brush assembly is fitted properly, you will see a tag that enters the machine making the front switch, secondly make sure the bag bottom housing is on properly and fully rotated so that its tag makes the switch on the side.
The only fuse is in the plug (UK).
Common fault is the mains lead broken internally, unplug from the side of the machine after removing the little cover where the wire goes in. You can use a kettle lead to test the hoover.
If this does not cure it most likely the motor brushes are worn.
