Check youtube. Be better off to take it to a local phone shop though. Sometimes it's easy, but sometimes the digitizer is glued to the glass. (S4 for example) and then you're in worse than you were before.
You may have a temp fix if it's just the glass cracked by putting a screensaver over it, which will smooth out your contact surface and protect your finger from glass. shards.

if you have dropped it or hit it on anything it may be the LCD screen cracked which is basically the touch screen it may respond to touch but that doesn't mean there isn't an internal crack
