Hi, The Camera (CCD) would appear to be faulty. I service scanners and I
have come accross this problem on this model twice. It was not worth
replaceing the camera due to the low value of the scanner. Cost of part
plus labour would be too high.

Hello the repair for this is remove the bottom camera and/or ccd and clean where the bottom camera is normally seated. I have seen it to be piece of a staple. The bottom camera not seated correctly makes the top camera not seat correctly and bingo half of your image is gone.
Thanks for that Dante. Just spent the morning cleaning out the space where the lower camera sits on 2 of these scanners. I did not find any staples but did find a couple of crumbs of food and a minute piece of plastic that was causing an obstruction. As a result the cameras do not line up and are unable to check for the white reference strip. Which in turn produces either part of the image missing on the front & rear image and/or solid black image on the rear image.
