I have a few ryobi 18 volt li ion batteries that the charger indicates the batteries are defective.
Rebuilding the Lithium batteries is a waste of time and money. For starters the cells cost a minimum of $5 ea and a low power pack takes 5, so now you are in for $25 without doing any work. You can pick up packs on eBay for around $30 - $40 if you shop around. If you know what you are doing, you can strip cells from bad packs and test them to find good ones and then rebuild with those. It can be tricky and you may get mixed results.
I have used Batteries Plus and had fine results. See if there is one near you.
After I posted the question I found that the local Batteries Plus only rebuilds the nicd and nchd battery packs, I have just tried a total bleed off of one of my li ion battery then charged it back up after spending some time cooling in the fridge. It charged up to a higher level than its prior Failed condition.n

talked to Ryobi and they are vague. It can either mean that the battery is bad, or the charger is bad and another one that maybe the contacts of the battery are dirty or not seating fully in charger. What I would look for in this instance first unplug the charger and look into charging slot to make sure the terminals of the charger are not bent and they come out into the cavity where battery would go. If not gently pull terminal into opening and retry. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance

No. The P110 is for NiCad batteries. Any of the Li-Ion chargers like the P113 are backwards compatible and can charge either but do not try to charge Li_ion batteries in a NiCad or NiHi charger.

You are the thrid person in the last couple of days with this same problem and i check who was posting the problems all differant people all RYOBI 18V lithium-ion batterys and they all got them for christmas. SOMETHING is not right there is now warranty on the batterys but there is one on faulty workmenship there must be a problem with this type of battery good luck
