Main memory I have a dilemma. Should I put more memory (main memory)? I have the processor (AMD Athlon XP 2500 + / 1.83 GHz/256MB of RAM), (K7 Triton Motherboard GA-7N400). Because of slow performance, which has 256MB. I want to add another 256MB of memory (512 main memory). PC Windows XP Professional SP3. Thanks Toni Dragicevic

You could do that. But I would check to see if you couldn't pick up two 1 GB RAM sticks instead. Memory has gotten cheaper & Windows XP is a memory hog that likes at least 1 GB of RAM.

Upgrade the 1.6GHz CPU on L7VMM2 Motherboard

ECS Support > L7VMM2 motherboard > Main Support page,

http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?DetailID=419&CategoryID=1&MenuID=50&LanID=0

Click on the CPU tab.

(Features / Specification / Download / Support / FAQ / CPU / etc)

Will support Up To an AMD Athlon XP 2600+,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Athlon_XP_microprocessors

Maximum Front Side Bus support is 266Megahertz.
(Max FSB = 266MHz)

(Motherboard manual states 133MHz.
Note that AMD processors are 'Double-pumped'.
This = 266MHz )

Supports AMD Athlon, AMD Athlon XP, and AMD Duron, processors.

Note in the CPU Support chart where it states -
Socket 462 > AMD Athlon XP > 2600+ (.13u)
The .13u stands for 130nm core architecture technology.

(nm = NanoMeter.
1 Billionth of a Meter )

NOTE*
For the Socket 462 (Socket A) processors, the AMD Athlon XP models are the top of the line.

'Sempy', or Sempron processors are at the bottom.
Low L2 processor memory cache compared to Athlon XP or Duron models.

HOW CAN I UPGRADE MY SYSTEM

it depends on how big the ram and the hd is. the bigger the hd and ram the more expensive it is except for their transfer rates. if your planning on upgrading because of games, you will need atleast 7200 rpm for the hardisk which costs more than a typical one. but for all i know thats the default for a desktop. there are 10,000 rpm also which are more expensive than the bigger hd's. same with the RAM. you can check ebay for the price. but the price depends on the country you are in if your buying it from your place.
