Recently I used the oven to cook something at 375 degrees. The oven was on for approximately 30 minutes. Later, I noticed that the interior of the microwave (which had not been used) and control panel was hot to the touch and this lasted about 4 hours when I finally decided to turn it off at the breaker. An appliance repairman came yesterday and could not figure out the problem.

I would say you have a bad door switch or door switch mount, or your door is loose or out of alignment.
But since it's new, and under warranty, I would contact Goldstar (LG) customer service to have them repair it free.
Contact LG at 1-800-243-0000 or http://us.lgservice.com

It sounds like a stuck relay or other controller problem.
I don't have the service data on this one, but there should be a schematic or tech sheet / mini-manual either on the back side, behind the controls, or somewhere else inside.
If you or someone you know can locate them and scan and e-mail or copy & fax them to me, I can probably give you further guidance.
Please feel free to contact me directly.

First, do not leave this machine plugged in until it is serviced. If this is a KHMS155LSS, there is a very high probability that you have a keypad short. This defect can cause the machine to start on its own at ANYTIME; while you are on vacation or at work or at night while you are sleeping etc. Contact Whirlpool Customer Service and ask for Safety Dept immediately. They will most likely send A&E (Sears) out to fix it. Although they will fix the problem, if the keypad fails again, the underlying logic self start defect is still present. You should be under warranty if it is above model. Please be polite, insistent, but polite. With KitchenAid's pathetic quality in recent years, their customer service reps get more then an earful. Also, please go to the Consumer Product Safety Commision website at www.cpsc.gov and post a Report Unsafe Products report. This will help get this model recalled before someone loses their home or life. I almost had a fire this past Monday, Labor Day, 9/7/09 when my machine self started at 3 AM with a package of bacon left in it to thaw at room temp for the morning. What a smokey mess. Chinese made garbage. Shame on Whirlpool. Long live Hobart!, please buy back KitchenAid and bring back the lost quality.

HI, this is an indication of a failed door switch. When the switch fails, the control cannot recognize the closed door signal. Simply replacing the door latch mechanism will solve this issue.
Replace the door latch assembly, asap.
