I had an old thermostat that i had to change need wiring diagram

What is the thermostat brand name? You can do a search in the Internet for the wiring diagram

the terminals where the wires go should be marked with letters put them back on the new t-stat matching the letters c is common on heatpump white and yellow should be jumpered togeather and if your new stat has rc and rh they should be jumpered and on heatpump there should be either an o or b hooked up but not both this is for shifting heat or cool
normaly red to red 24v hot...green is indoor fan....yellow is compressor and or white also....blue is reversing valve energize for heat orange is energize for cooling ...and black or brown is common which is neutral or ground for the 24volts

You need to get a different thermostat.you can change an analog thermostat to digital, but you have to replace the motherboard with a digital compliant one. You can't just change the thermostat. Your best bet is to put back the old thermostat or upgrade to a different compatable thermostat

carefully follow the below steps;

Turn off the circuit breaker that controls the air conditioning system. Turn the thermostat to the "On" position to make sure that all power is cut off and the air conditioner cannot accidentally operate.
Remove the cover of the existing thermostat and remove the colored wires from the terminals. Take out any screws that secure the thermostat to the wall, and remove the thermostat.

Mount the new thermostat on the wall. Feed the wires through the unit, with enough slack to allow you to make the new connections.

Connect the red wire to the thermostat terminal labeled "RH," "RC" or "R." The red wire carries the power from the transformer.
Connect the green wire to the thermostat terminal labeled "G." This controls the relay that controls the fan. Attach the yellow wire to the "Y" terminal of the thermostat. This powers the main control. Connect the white wire to the "W" terminal. This is the heating control wire.

Close the thermostat's cover and turn the breakers back on. Turn the new thermostat to the "On" position to test it and that would be all.

red to Rh AND Rc, white to W, blue to Y, green to G,

Rc/Rh should be from the transformer if a single transformer system. If its'a dual transformer system, then there should be a red wire to each from it's respective unit (furnace=Rh, condensor=Rc.).
W should be heat.
Y Should be cooling.
G should be fan.
I am not certain what E is, unless the stat can be used on a heat pump with backup electric heat, in which case it's for the electric heat.

The reason I say should be, is because if you are looking at wire colors, and not terminal designations, there is no guarantee the control wiring was connected following normal convention.

Looks like your system is a heatpump system and that t-stat will not run a heatpump , you need a t-stat for 2heat and 1 cool systems

both thermostatats will have terminal designators R,W,Y,G, possibly O/B, C, W1,W2, Y1, Y2, etc.
Simplest method is to remove wires from old stat one at a time. mark where they came from and then install at same desinated terminal on the new t-stat. Hope this helps. be sure to shut off power supply to the unit (furnace) first. The wire coming to the R (RH,RC) terminal is the 24 volt a/c hot, all others are feeding back to perform given function.
