I cant figure out how to remove my sim card. i switched cell phone carriers and want to insert the new sim.
To remove the sim card this requires a very small tool or fine needle or fine piece of rigid wire and insert it into the ejection hole located near the sim card.
Hope this helps
First you can remove your current network lock in your iphone3gs.I think your iphone3gs is locked with certain network carrier, so you can't use another network sim cards. I suggest you to use remote unlocking solution to remove your network lock after then you can use any gsm network sim cards. You can get remote unlocking service at TheUnlockArena.com
At the top of the phone next to the headphone jack there is a small hole to open the sim card tray. You can open it by using a paper clip. Once it is opened replace the old sim card and slide the tray back in place.

Some SIM cards because of their design have to be trimmed slightly in order to work with the turbo SIM. You can find a video on how to do this on youtube
SOURCE: Iphone 3g 8gb Officially unlocked sim error problem
the new sim card is connected with having an iphone account. when you say it is officially unlocked.
does this mean that AT&T unlocked your phone?
what i think your saying is that if you have 2 sim cards, one that is in use and the other is a spare you cannot use both. at the same time.
the sims are standalone, to use a spare sim it has to be activated by the carrier, thus disabling your original sim.
when you change sims you will need to reboot the phone that will not change.
SOURCE: I have Iphone clone and I get ''no service'' when my AT+T sim card
I also had purchased an Iphone clone not to long ago. My service provider was AT&T. 90% of the time when my SIM card was inserted the phone would read "emergency mode". I would have no service, I wouldn't be able to receive or send any calls or text messages. I talked to AT&T representatives who would solve the problem for short periods of time but never gave me a permanent fix. I immediately sent the phone back to the seller. I have been doing a lot of research on these Iphone clones and I have seen quite a few times that people have problems in this area, not being able to have service. Also, what you have purchased and think is a genuine Iphone very well may not be. Many models of these Iphone clones now have the Apple symbol on the back and even have the Apple logo displayed on the screen when they start up. This being the case, you may very well have purchased a fake Iphone which would lead to problems with your service provider. I'm not sure how to fix the problem, and for this I apologize because I know how frustrating it is not to have service. But, I can tell you that your best bet may be to return the phone and try something else. All I've heard is that the genuine Iphone is the best way to go. Because these clones are made by independent manufacturers and not sold through AT&T, even though they may seem nice, many people have constant problems with service. Good luck, and if you find an alternative solution please let me know!

Try replacing you sim and if you still get the same error then it is a device issue. You will need to contact your service provider for replacement options!
