I just had the same problem today and fixed it with HP tech support. This is the instruction from them: at bootup, hit F10 to go into BIOS mode. At the BIOS screen, hit F9 which loads the factory default setup. Exit and Save. They asked me to reload the Broadcom driver and Nvidia driver but I didn't have to. Mine was a F700 running windows Vista. Good luck.

You have to download XP drivers from the manufacturer's website. This normally happens because your harware was designed for the new OS(Vista).
Just go to hp.com and search for the model of your Laptop.
