What you are describing might not be a virus. It could be hardware failure.

Read the Manual. It will tell you how to get into Factory Restore.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "HP Support" or "Compaq Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Look for Manuals and search them for Factory Restore or System Recovery.

Why not just kill the virus or do a System Restore which will allow you to select a Restore Point (date and time) before you got the virus. Go to start menu and search for Backup And Restore Center

run scan disk from bios, sounds like you have alot of disk errors

go into safe mode with networking by pressing F8 on start up. download Malwarebytes and run a full scan.

your bios's alert log must be cleard to get rid of that annoying message

carbon dated at 2002 , its 15 years old and the CCFL is not burned out, now that is amazing ! but I bet the CCFL is dim and yellow.
so when that happens all colors are no yellow added.

ok you proved the display is bad. or set wrong (NICE JOB)
did you push the screens menu key and see all those settings inside.?
on the last screen of most hp, OSD screens is a reset.
did you try that, reset to factory setting. do you have the users guide.

or buy a new screen at walmart for $50? (a fraction of cost to fix yours, for sure)
