Is there a separate power cord?

My kids have Dell 720 Printer, and it won't turn on. It is plugged in to the computer through a USB cable. There does not appear to be a separate power cable. The user manuals are long gone. Does this printer get its power throught the USB cable, or should I be hunting for a power cord?

I know what you mean, actually the empty slot right above the usb connection is a slot for the power cord. See those two metal prongs in the slot above the usb spot? That's where a big block-like power cord goes...

Here is the link for the user manual; http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/PRN720/en/OM/720_English.pdf Page 11 states that there is a seperate power cord, and shows the connection port. Unfortunately there is no picture of the power cord itself, it may be a standard cord alone, or it may include a power transformer - the manual is unclear. All the contact details for dell are included in the manual, or contact them on; http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dellcare/en/contact_us?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn Hope this helps :)

When i try to print a paper a popup comes up and says that my printer is not connected to my computer, I have tried unplugging the power cord and usb cord an restart the computer nothing works

See if you can reinstall the printer. Try deleting the printer in the control panel and then reinstalling it. Also try plugging it into another USB port.

Printer stopped printing when paper fed improperly. Fixed it, and tried everything to get it back to work. It just flashes one short flash, pauses, then two short flashes. Help! Tracey

  1. When connected by a USB cable, reseat both ends of the cable going from the computer to the printer.

  2. When connected to a wired or wireless network, make sure the network is working correctly and that the printer is connected to the network.
  3. (to make sure the printer is on the network, print a network set up page, for more information on how refer to the user's guide, refer to the Downloading and Viewing Printer Manuals section for information on how to download and view the user's guide).

  4. Restart the computer.

  5. Turn the printer off.

  6. Unplug the printer power cord from the A/C outlet or surge protector and wait at least 30 seconds.

  7. Plug the printer power cord back into the A/C outlet or surge protector.

  8. Turn the printer back on.

I dont know where the Dell 725 Printer Power Cord goes into the tower Which outlet on the tower

The Dell 725 printer power cord does NOT plug in to the tower. The Video Cable, on the other hand, plugs in to the tower's video output. Look for a connector like the one from the printer (often USB these days) to plug it in to the computer. There was a diagram that came with the computer that showed how to do all the connections, and the Power Cord does NOT plug in to the tower. USB connections are in various locations on your computer's tower, in the back and sometimes in the front too.

I had a paper jam this morning, cleared the paper jam, and now the printer will not power up. I tried to remove the usb cable, and the power cable, reboot the computer, and replug in the usb and power...

Hi,

First, Make sure that the printer is properly plugged in to a working electrical outlet and that it is hooked up to the computer as indicated. There should be two separate cables running out of your Dell 924, a power cord and a USB cable that communicates with the computer. If both of these aren't plugged in, then the machine will not function properly.

If the lights on your printer aren't working then it means one of two different things:

  • Printer has an internal electrical problem and needs repair or
  • Printer isn't receiving power from the outlet or power cord
Check whether, are you getting power from the socket by connecting some other component..If it works check whether the Power cord is propwerly connected, try pressing the power cord once..

If not the circuit may be damaged, Which cant be repaired inhome, you have to return to DELL service center and make it repaired

Please leave me comment, if you need further assistance

Cannot connect a hp psc 2410 printer to dell inspiron 1000 laptop

Try a powered USB hub, this will boost the power in the USB curcuit.
Also ensure that in Device Manager, USB Root HUB, Power Management tab, that the option to let windows turn off the device is unchecked.

Dell 720

Lately dell printers use a power pack that slides into the left rear of the printer and is universal to many different Lexmark & Dell printers. This since about '02. These packs make 30 volts DC. Google part # 15J0307 and see if this is what you are missing.

USB Cable?

It should connect directly to the printer. Exactly where varies from model to model, but there should be a small port it will fit in. Just FYI, the printer will not be powered by the USB cable, it will require a separate power cord (which you probably already knew and had plugged in).
